Terraformer?

I see that Evolution Control is supposed to permit the building of this improvement, but it is not in the improvements file. Presumably it improves the planet class. But how much does it cost, how much is its maintenance and how big is the improvement?

I found the definition for the "terraformer" in the file wonders.imp. It is a wonder, and I guess it is the replacement for the GC/OS2 wonder "CrystalAI". The definition looks like it gives a 10% increase in planet class, but the text for the definition says it will "increase the quality of all our planets by at least 1 class." Perhaps another race built it before you could see it in your list, or perhaps the support code for this wonder just isn't ready yet.

Also, the comment in the keyword "AbilityType 18 //plante quality" has "planet" misspelled, but I don't think that would cause any problems.

Then either there is a bug in Build 5C or some other race has already built it. FWIW, I have not researched this tech yet with a Gamma build, but I will be watching for it.

Believe me, nobody else has built it. At least if they did, they did it without the required tech.

I think Ted may have found the problem. There are two wonders with the same ID (11), Tir Quan Training and Terrraformers. I can imagine where this could cause the problem reported in this thread. I can also imagine how it *might* (I don't know the code, so I don't know) cause another reported problem; Tir Quan Training appearing on build lists after it had been built.

If you have had either of these problems and would like to help the people at SD solve it (and feel confident enough to try it), go into your "wonders.imp" file and change the ID for "terraformers" from 11 to 12.

Detailed instructions for anyone that may need them: with Galciv closed:
1). Go into your Galciv\data directory and find the file "wonders.imp"
2). right click on this file
3). Left click "open with".
4). If "notepad" appears in the list, left click it, else left click on choose program, then search the list of candidate applications for "notepad" and click "notepad", unselect the box "Always use ..." and click OK.
5). Go to the bottom of the file and you will see the definition for "Terraformer" (starts with "IMPROVEMENT Terraformer" and ends with "ENDIMPROVEMENT").
6). Locate the ine within this definition that reads "ID 11" and change it to read "ID 12".

If this corrects these problems for you, please post on this thread.

I forgot the most important warning: Before changing this file, MAKE A BACKUP COPY. Use a different file extention name when you do (something other than *.anomaly, *.imp, *.resource, *.lst *.tech, *.ship, *.event, *.party, *.str or *.sbmodule).

One other possibility is that there is a galactic event that seems to increase the value of planets in a sector (even though says for 3 sectors .. if recall ... around where the ancient device is found). I had this occur in latest game prior to getting terraformer and once got did not get Tri Quan again at least for me (had built same). Only mention as the effect seems to be very similar to that purported for the Tformer.
