Microsoft Flight Simulator X Demo

Wow- I couldn't wait to play this one!

As soon as the gamespot 'free demo' mail arrived in my inbox, I rushed over to download it.

After 5 hours of downloading only 636 MB of virutally dial-up bandwidth (Yes and I even have 2MBPS Broadband). I virus scanned the zip.

After seeing thousands of MD5 algorithm keys flash past the screen during the virus scan I waited 12 minutes for it to finish scanning, before burning it to disk and transferring it to our main PC which is not connected to the net for security reasons.

Then, I executed the zip.

After 8 minutes of installing it then told me it was aborting because we 'did not have Service Pack 2 installed'.

Yes, this could only be Microsoft.

Great demo.

Argh, I hate SP2 SO BAD! I'm convinced that that stupid popup "your computer maybe at risk because you do not have you anti-virus set up to scan email even theough you only ever use damb webmail so hey I'm gonna pop up in case you forgot from the time I popped up 2 minutes ago, Pop! Pop! Pop!" causes GC2 (& other things) to CTD.

I agree that it should have checked for requirements before starting to install. But if you'd read the product info page, you'd see that SP2 is required.

Also, what do you mean, "Then, I executed the zip"? The demo I am downloading right now from Microsoft's site is a .EXE, not a .ZIP. Sounds to me like the demo got repackaged by Gamespot. How much time did it take to extract the files from the ZIP before being able to start installing? All that adds up.
