About downloading the game (answers)

About downloading the game (answers)

Okay just so that we're clear:

On March 26th GalCiv will be available. Now, whether you buy the game at EB, Amazon, CompUSA, Gamestop, or direct, etc. you will be, able to, after you get the game with the serial # download the FULL game via Stardock Central. This is how it works:

Each copy of GalCiv comes with a Stardock.net serial #. It will be on the back of the jewel case for GalCiv in the retail box or if you buy it directly it'll be in the DVD case as well as in your email.

Once you have that number, you'll be able to come here, click on the download link and get Stardock Central (http://www.stardock.com/products/sdcentral/sd1.jpg). If you've already installed GalCiv, it will show you what updates have been made (BonusPak, new features, bug fixes, trojan horse viruses added, etc.).

But even you've blown away GalCiv entirely, you can still go onto Stardock Central and download the whole thing and have the latest version. So even if you melt your original CD you will still be able to get the full game as long as you have that serial #. But be careful, the serial number that comes with GalCiv isn't like serial numbers you've seen before. They are tied to each user. So if it were to somehow "get out there", the system would detect anomalous activity and shut down that number so guard that number, it's your personal Stardock.net account number.

As someone who has kids who have damaged many a CD (I've had to repurchase Total Annihilation 3 times), being able to download the game on-line long after purchase will come in handy we think.

So anyway, no matter where you buy it, the benefits are equal. Whether it's from EB, or CompUSA or direct, you'll be able to download updates or the whole thing from scratch with that Stardock.net serial #.

Hope this helps.

Nah. I am one of those that only know one spoken language. I tried to learn Turkish and Italian when I was stationed in those countries, but even immersion didn't help me. I guess I am just one of those unfortunate ones that can't.

Written languages (like in programming), that is another matter.

As at 0940 AEDST on Sunday 16 March 2003 1 euro = $US1.07

Here in Australia were learn english with proper spelling...colour has a u in it. In high school you can learn a variety of languages but it's not compulsory. Though there are many weekend language schools for high school students.

I can write in Basic LOL

A guy from London that I worked with for several years always called the english spoken in the USA as "american". When I heard him do that I started calling the english he spoke as "Brit".

Australian english is called Strine...a dialect of English, so to speak, much like Cantonese is of Chinese.

Just to clarify.. Euros are called Euros or Euro, NOT Euro-dollar.. big diffrence, no "dollar" in our currency ;)
The small coins are called Euro-cents though.. but then cents have existed in many currencies for several hundred years :)

In sweden we learn english when we are.. hmm.. 11 I think? cant remember.. When we are around 13 we can learn french/german/spanish, you dont HAVE to though.. Although most people learn 1 or 2 languages besides english :)

Although dialects across the US can confuse me... working in a call center I often get calls from people who speak in a barely intelligible deep cajun (my apologies to people who speak cajun).

I would give my right arm to speek several languages. Yet I love being able to listen to Bocelli, or Gipsy Kings and write fiction without being distracted by the litteral meaning of the songs.

My father was german and my mother French Canadien so the plan as I was told was that I'd grow up speaking three languages. Alas, things didnt work out for my parents and they split at a young age...no three languages for me. Its too hard for me to learn a new one after all these years of English.

Arokh72: I'm not sure I understand how Australian english is so different from "normal" english? Aside from the Aussie expressions that other people might not be familiar with, well, it's english.

As compared to Cantonese and Mandarin, for example, these dialects are sufficiently different from each other so that if you only knew one, you wouldn't be able to understand the other.

Ever been to Australia? If not speak to someone from the US or UK who has they can't seem to keep up. For example to use a famous phrase, with proper aussies terms put in, spoken like an aussie would write like; wouldaputanotherprawnonthebarbieforusandwatchthefrigginsnagsyadipshit. And thats just being nice to a friend.

Unless they plan to use slang they shouldn't need to change language for Australia.

I went on a 2 week vacation to the Gold Coast area in Queensland last summer (and went on a few road trips around NSW) - and I will admit it took me about a day to get used to the speech LOL especially when I would be talking to more than one person at the same time.

But I think I got the hang of it (more or less) after that. ;)

I lived in a small village in England in 1970-1971. It took three days before I could understand one complete sentence.

This'll be the opening speech of a new war; G'day , Look mate ya said some s**t about me missus and we can't have that so ya know I gotta go to war with ya. After the war come on over to our planet for a barbie and a slab and we'll watch some footy.

Footy (slang) football can be either Rugby League or Australian Rules depending on reigon. Slab (n) a case of 24 cans or stubbies of beer. Stubby (n) A smaller bottle of beer usually about 300mL.

Frogboy a serious question from me, for a change. If we from the other side of this world purchase the CD or even download from you guys will we need to change our settings in Win (I'm using XP Pro) to US? I once bought a game from the US and had to do just that.

This sounds like a very good model for dealing with piracy and giving users a lot of freedom/options. Hats off to you guys for finding a good win/win solution!

I'm not sure why you'd need to change your settings to US.
