Space Ranger 2 Fans

Is there a Space Ranger Forum anywhere on Stardock site? If not, can we have one?

I enjoy talking about Space Ranger 2 with other like minded people. I've never found myself this giddy over a game since Star Control series, Starflight, and Gal Civ 2 series.

Thank you Stardock for rescuing SR2 from the evil clutches of StarF**K, err.. I mean Starforce.

I'll ask about it.

Cool.. Thanks Yarlen. Let us know as soon as you find out. Looks like Space Ranger 2, althought it is already a great game, will get even more popular thanks to Stardock.

I would never have bought this game if it wasn't for you guys. I just totally hate Starforce. I like your philosophy of actually trusting your customers.

Anyways, Space Ranger is a great game. Stardock should think about making a Spiritual successor to it. Example, a Galactic Civilization spin-off that has the same great features of both Space Ranger 2 and Galciv2.

Oh, and I just got 1 of my friends to buy this game. I let him play a little bit on my computer and now he just signed up and downloaded Stardock Central and will be downloading Space Ranger 2 in a matter of minutes.

I'd like to see a forum here, too. I already own SR2 (see my review of it at Amazon.com), but bought a new copy through TG.net (a) to drop the StarForce copy protection and (b) in hopes that the 1.3 patch will someday be translated to English and released. A fun, addictive game. ..bruce..

I wouldn't mind seeing an active SR2 forum here as well. Got mine through Stardock last weekend. Great game!   The original Elemental games forum is pretty dead now, and seeing how there is already a great community here. It would be great to be able to discuss some strats for SR2 on a more active forum.

I've been interested in this game for a while, but one thing has kept me from grabbing off the shelf. So I have to ask this question: Can I now get a HARD COPY w/o that Starforce rootkit, or copy protection, or whatever they want call that garbage?

A forum would be very interesting. The old forum isn't doing much anymore. SR2 is especially ripe for discussion, as it's such an open-ended game and so many different strategies will work. Also, it would be nice to see which bugs other people have seen.

That's a good question... I kinda do want a CD/DVD copy. Like with Galciv2, I always order online and download the game, but I also order a hardcopy. Would be nice if we could get one.

BTW, I wonder if anyone from Stardock is reading this? Hope we can get an answer soon regarding having a message board for Space Rangers.

I doubt there will be any forum changes over the weekend, but we may have an SR2 thread right here if enough people are interested.

I guess I'll start.   I seem to be pretty strong for the first few years, but by about the eighth year I really start falling behind in my upgrades compared to the pirates and such. I can't seem to make enough money to keep up with maintenance and upgrades. Anyone run into this or have some good advice on keeping up? I'm starting to get my butt kicked by pirates, something unheard of 2 years ago(gametime).

I haven't got so late into the game yet as 8 years, but that's because I've started over a few times. I had tried to start with smaller hulls with more fire-power, but that didn't seem to be getting me very far. In my current game I started with a large hull with faster engine, and my finances look pretty good so far (10,000 in the 2nd year). I plan to wait awhile to switch the emphasis to weapons. I'll post later about how this strategy works, or doesn't.

I also started over several times when I first got it. Seems a solid starting strat really helps you later on. I've kinda screwed myself in my game. Decided to go after dominators and piled up the repair bills. Now I'm broke and behind Tech wise. Still having a blast getting my butt kicked though.  I think I'll get out of the hole with some trading.

Oh crap. I've spent the last 6 weeks swimming against a tide of work. I *finally* managed to get ahead last week, and then Space Rangers 2 happened.

Great game. Plus on top of all that, finally there's a game that's a serious challenge on *normal* difficulty.

I just finished the game on Normal recently. First time, I put it on easy to learn the game. What I did was I focus on doing Government Delivery Missions. It gives you a fairly healthy amount of cash plus, at times, you get some add-ons that you could use or sell if your really low on money. I do this for about a while and I don't even bother with the Dominator until I have enough cash and a pretty good ship.

Thank god the Dominators aren't so powerful that they begin wiping systems out. At normal difficulty, the Dominators will claim some system, but the Coalition military will gain some so it pretty much evens up. So, you got alot of time to play.

It's the pirates that are causing me problems, not the dominators.

Has anyone had success being a pirate? I tried that out for a couple of years but didn't get very far. I had decent weapons, but my relations got so bad that it just didn't seem worth it.

Nope, sorry. We're only able to sell the digital version.

It is a bit annoying to have 2 forums on the same topic without any simple way to see the contents between each other

One is for support, the other is for discussion.

That's a weird looking address to remember for a forum. Hmmm... I have access to a domain name. Yaran (or any other Stardock peeps), you think I could create a more memorable domain name and link it to one of those forum or if not, maybe you guys can? Maybe a subdomain somewhere?

But anyways.. Thanks guys for the forum.

I'm barely surviving myself. But here's what i did. I go to the planets where i'm wanted and I serve my time in jail. My rep seems to get fix for that particular race. Pretty much I put up a front and pretend i'm a good guy. Then later on, once I can build up a pretty decent ship, i'm going back to the dark side. MWAHAHAHA *cough* *cough* ahem...
