To Upconvert Or Not To Upconvert?

Okay, I finally gave in and bought a 42" Plasma TV., a Toshiba 42HP66. The picture is stunning, much warmer than either the Samsung or Panasonic TVs that I looked at. See Link

I have a large collection of DVDs and intend to continue to play them. Does it pay to buy an upconverting DVD and if so, is the Oppo 981 worth investing in? (See Link for the Oppo's specs.)

Sound is also a consideration for me, I have an Onkyo HT-R520 6.1 Home Theater and I want the best sound possible.

Comments or suggestions?
