Minor bug

The "Dmer" minor race just appeared in the game on planet Nesro, but their icon does not show on the planet. It looks like a normal unpopulated system except it has the Race Capital icon in the lower left.

Which version are you playing Fleshpile.

Well seeing as the game is not released yet you are either using a beta or a warez.
Either way it has been fixed.

Go to the directory the game is installed, normally C:/Program Files/Drengin.net/galciv and RIGHT CLICK on the GALCIV EXE. Choose PROPERTIES > VERSION.

BTW, I did this myself now for the first time and it shows: Version 1.0.0.1. (Bought Drengin, and was just in time to DL the beta, but now it puzzles me why it showes 1.0.0.1?).

Lol I'm using a beta :). I have had trouble connecting to the update server lately though (I probably need to reinstall Drengin.net) so I'm probably not using the most up to date version.

Oh well just being a good little beta tester and reporting bugs :). Glad it's fixed.

So the same as I. Leaves the question WHY it is 1.0.0.1 IF the 1.0 Gold will be released in three days? Or is it an upgraded version? I don't mind actually, because I know the released version has lots of additions. Just wondering.

I am unsure where the version you accessed is set. One place I do know that is set by Stardock code is in the system registry. To view this, go to a dos prompt and type "regedit". A window will open that shows key names on the left and key values on the right. The key names are hierarchical. Look for the keyword "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE". If it is already expanded to show the sub-keys it will have a "-" to the left of it. If not, there will be a "+", and you will have to click on the "+" to expand it. Then look for the sub-key "SOFTWARE", and if it is not already expanded, expand it. Continue this way through the sub-keys "Stardock" and "Drengin.net". Then select the sub-key "Galciv". On the right you should now see the set of keys and data defined for Galciv, including the key "Version". If you can tell me what verion you see there I can give you a general idea of what level of code you have.

***WARNING***
The system registry is very sensitive. If you aren't careful you could render your system inoperable.

DO NOT CHANGE ANY SETTINGS unless you are certain what the affect will be.

Yes, Lucky Jack, but WHY should your procedure differ from what I did? " Go to the directory the game is installed, normally C:/Program Files/Drengin.net/galciv and RIGHT CLICK on the GALCIV EXE. Choose PROPERTIES > VERSION.

BTW, I did this myself now for the first time and it shows: Version 1.0.0.1. (Bought Drengin, and was just in time to DL the beta, but now it puzzles me why it showes 1.0.0.1?). ". This should be the same as registered in the system registry, else it wouldn't show up.

When i followed your procedure I also got 1.0.0.1. I know I have a newer version than you do. I also suspect the OS sets this value, hence I think it is not that reliable in comparing levels between us. Some things very specific about that version number make me question its usefulness. One, it has four number groups, not three. Second, the galciv release levels for the beta started with a 0, as in 0.52.016 (not a number I actually remember being used, but used to show the numbering pattern). Also, if you are using SDC (and you will be able to in a couple of days), the release levels shown by SDC are stored in the registry when it installs one of its products and extracted from the registry to show what level you have installed.

I have one other way of, perhaps, determining roughly what level of code you and fleshpile have. One of the properties of the file "calciv.exe" is its last modified date. It is not as reliable, since I don't have a chart that gives a correspondence of date to release level, but it will help.

Lucky Jack: No big deal, mate. I was just curious, since it was the first time I checked this. Exactly what you say: beta's would start with 0, that's what beta's in first instance are for. Well, next Wednesday we can play the Gold version, AND THAT'S WHAT ALL THIS IS ABOUT :)

'Go to the directory the game is installed, normally C:/Program Files/Drengin.net/galciv and RIGHT CLICK on the GALCIV EXE. Choose PROPERTIES > VERSION.'

The Windows File Properties version property is not used by GalCiv. Most of the file properties are not filled in or are in err (or are various default values).

The actual GalCiv version is displayed by the Drengin Game Manager or Stardock Central Client.

That's what Windows displays if the property entry is , or the field is not present at all. Any combination of identifiers, which need not be numeric, can be used in that field (255 character alphanumeric with a terminator, I think).

That should read 'if the property entry is null,...' *glares at angle brackets*

I have the same problem. According to the registry, I'm playing 0.9.017.

On a side note, will this always be the Reg Key that is used for GalCiv - why I ask is that I'm writing an app that uses the text data files and it would be good to be able to just get GalCivs location from the registry.

I don't think even Stardock will guarentee that this key structure in the registry is going to be used infinitum, but I think they are very much aware of how much difficulty they create for themselves if they change it. (BTW, it has been changed once already during the beta/gamma test period.)
