Running SDC .99a 139. GalCiv, bonus pick and windowed mode are already installed but I stopped the multimedia download since I didn't want to wait. Now Gal Civ is not longer listed under my drengin.net tab (I only bought GalCiv) even though I'm properly registered and already installed except for the multimedia. Using the Atlanta server.

i'm currently dling the media files. i noticed that there's a newer version of Galciv up 1.01.029 - i got 1.01.026 a hour or so ago. is updating necessary?

cheers

Not really. .029 just makes the game play a little nicer if you don't have the multimedia.

I wish I could get this far. I tried subscribing to Drengin Network, but I got the nice error:

ERROR SDS# 00001

There has been an error saving your order. Your order has not been processed. Contact [email protected] for additional help.
:(

With my luck it will take a few weeks before I get a reply. Maybe I should just reconsider and not buy this stuff.. :notsure:

Hi. I'm having a problem installing the multimedia.

I'm running SDCentral Ver: 0.99b.141

I was able to download the galciv main application. When I attempt to install I get the following (from the log file)

Extract File: E:\Games\SDCentral\temp\Mod_Multimedia\movies\5_trade01.bi_
Result: Failed (deleted file)
Installation aborted (failed)

The exact file it fails on changes every time, but I the error doesn't.

Any ideas? I'm in #galciv right now if that makes it easier.

Thanks.

Okay you guys got a serious problem.. I figured a solution to it but anyways:
I registered for drening network, got the serial and downloaded stardock central. When i registered i wrote the wrong email adress (missed one letter) and i never got the validation link. Even if you uninstall stardoc it will still check the old email and not be able to connect becouse you didnt get to validate it.

Anyways found out i had to delete the keys in the registery with regedit. Did that and got it with the right email adress. But then it could not connect. So i figured i try and register at galciv.com and i that worked. Now i got an email to my student mail (university of tromsoe) but they got virus protection and sencored the messaage so i did not get the link.

So i created a hotmail acount and repeated the prosess and registerd again at galciv.com and got it all working.Downloading as we speak :P

Bottom line: This much trouble because you hit the wrong adress in the registration.. You guys should fix it so that you can send the validation mail again if you cant connect or something like that. A normal user would never figure out what was wrong. Also you should send the link as a plain link with nothing fancy so it doesnt get sencored by email virus protection software. (NEVER EVER DO ATTACHMENTS with serial information etc...)

I am having trouble with the download manager; I repeatedly get fails as noted above

Extract File: E:\Games\SDCentral\temp\Mod_Multimedia\movies\5_trade01.bi_
Result: Failed (deleted file)
Installation aborted (failed)

with the "problem" file changing. When I resume the download it goes back to a point several megs before the fail.

As I am on a 56k modem, this does not fill me full of confidence for downloading the multimedia..

ah in fact I am downloading the GC 1.01 file. This file is repeatedly failing

Extract File: C:\PROGRA~1\STARDOCK\SDCENT~1\temp\Base\galciv.ex_
Result: Failed (deleted file)
Installation aborted (failed)

The download manager shows this as being 84.50/84.50 mbs downloaded. However when I go to continue the install it drops back to 93% completed or about 78/84.50 mbs downloaded

any ideas?

Let me ask Pat. Just one question, how mcuh drive space do you have on that partition?

Biggy boy: Email sales on that. I'm not very familiar with that. It could be anything reanging from the commerce server updating its database just at that time to something else. I've brought the problem to the attention of the DB people.

Frogboy, here's some data for you on the "deleted file" problem. I had it hit once during the GalCiv install. Retrying the install fixed the problem, and I went on to install the Bonus pack, Multimedia files, and PDF manual without problem. However, I can't install any other Drengin.net game without hitting that same problem now, no matter how many times I try.

This is on a Win2K Pro box with a 40GB drive in a single NTFS partition, with just over 8GB free. I haven't had the chance to scan/defrag the drive yet, I'll probably do that today or tomorrow (tonight may be just GalCiv, since it installed just fine :))

Can I delete all the files in the temp directory under SDCentral (can't remember the exact path)? I'm willing to try that to see if it has any effect if you'll tell me that I'm not screwing up anything by trying it :-) (It's the machine I put together for my girlfriend, I don't play games on my machine because it runs FreeBSD and is slower, so I really don't want to mess anything up).

Well, mine is failing on the multimedia install. It failed once with the galciv main program, but then a partial re-download and install worked.

The multimedia install fails as described in my post above.

I'm running Win2K Pro w/ SDCentral and Galciv installed on a 33 gig NTFS partition, with 9. gigs free.

I am also experiencing major problems with Stardock Central. I am unable to successfully install most of the available GalCiv or Object Desktop items (I have purchased both, and was a beta tester so I have had earlier versions of both Stardock Central and Drengin game manager on my system). However, when I started having problems, I removed all previous versions of Stardock Central, Component Manager, GalCiv (this includes files and related registry keys).

Doesn't matter which Stardock Central program item I try to install, I get a failed install, with the install log ending with:

Extract File:
Result: Failed (deleted file)
Installation aborted (failed)

I have the latest version of Stardock Central installed, and have uninstalled and reinstalled Stardock Central multiple times. I have occassionally been able to download and install one or two things after reinstalling, but the application soon seems to become corrupt again and unable to extract downloaded files. :notsure:

Any thoughts from anyone out there? The strange thing is that I can install stuff downloaded from Stardock just fine via Component Manager (which I reinstalled for testing purposes)...

I am using Windows XP with XP installed on my D: drive. I have installed Stardock Central on my D: drive, as well.

Just an FYI that similar problems have been reported in this thread (including by me)

To anyone having the extraction errors after downloading, I just installed the newest version of Stardock Central and I am now able to download and install programs successfully.

Give it a shot, it worked for me. LOL

In case anyone was confused, when I say "the newest version", I am speaking of the version that was released within the last hour. See this post for details:

After installing the latest SDC I've had to start my download all over again. :notsure:
This is going to take forever...

I did one other thing after updating the software to the newest version.

I went to 'Tools-->Refresh Application Data' in Stardock Central before attempting to install any of the Object Desktop or GalCiv applications.

Between that and installing the newest version of Stardock Central, things are now working like a charm.

Hope that helps some of you! :) I'm just including this latest info, since I did make two changes to my system (described above) before trying to install anything again, so I cannot say for certain which one solved my issues. If I had to guess, I'd say it was the new version of Stardock Central, though.

Mythor,

Mine started over as well (not a big deal for the Object Desktop stuff, but the Multimedia package for GalCiv is going to take some time at the current speed).

I'm just happy that it is working! :) I'm going to go eat some dinner, play some 'Operational Art of War: A Century of Warfare', and then GalCiv should be ready to go! :D

I cannot say enough how great it is to see Stardock listening to their customers and quickly getting issues resolved. I don't want to start any flames, but it is a marked difference from the situation surrounding a different space conquest game which shall go unnamed... ;)

Thanks.

Yea, this whole thing is kind of a first in many ways. I'm not aware of any major commercial game coming out where you can download the entire game electronically. Particularly one of this size.

Thank goodness for the beta team who have helped us solve so many problems. I can't imagine how this could have been done without them. It would have been a disaster.
