FAQ: SDCentral registration and other issues

If you have any problems with Stardock Central, let us know.

One issue that we've seen already is the question of registering products.

If you purchased GalCiv, it is important to put the serial # into the GalCiv entry and NOT in the Drengin.net entry. Similarly, if you purchased Drengin.net don't put it into the GalCiv one.

And obviously don't put your serial number into both, otherwise it will fail validation.

Here is a screenshot to help guide you along:

I posted this in another thread (FAQ: DL problems) as well.

Running SDC .99a 139. GalCiv, bonus pick and windowed mode are already installed but I stopped the multimedia download since I didn't want to wait. Now Gal Civ is not longer listed under my drengin.net tab (I only bought GalCiv) even though I'm properly registered and already installed except for the multimedia. Using the Atlanta server and my serial number is properly only in the Galciv box (no serial for drengin.net since I'm not a subscriber).

The only problem I have is that I want my Drengin.net subscription but I don't dare try submitting my form again with this warning:
"Do Not Resubmit Your Order!" LOL

I hope that the sales people from stardock get in touch with me quickly so I can start playing these Stardock games :)

This is probably not the kind of post you were looking for in this tread right?... oh well ;p

I'm still not sure, maybe I'm dumb :p , but I want to be sure for tomorrow (I'm in Europe, so it'll be ak at 6am !) : on which "tab" should the registration be entered ? Currently under 0.99b.141, when clicking on Registration there is a "Drengi.net" tab that allows registration for Drengin.net OR GalCiv (combo box), and a Stardock tab that only has CursorXP ...
Will GalCiv appear on the Stardock tab tomorrow, or will we have to use Drengin.net tab/GalCiv registration ? :notsure:

Ooops sorry !!!
I'm really tired, I wrote the last message and then saw there was a LINK to a SCREENSHOT that made everything clear in Frogboy's original message ...
My stupid question merits deletion ... ;p

Ok here is one.
I purchased Drengin.net about 2 years ago and I have access to all of the software? :notsure:

Should it be this way? Or do I need to try to download it then it would tell me that it is shareware?

I want to buy the D.net again, and I want to be honest especially with such a kick a$$ company. And that is why I havnt tried to download yet.

Well should I try?

Ok, I'm able to register my GalCiv info, but Stardock refuses to authenticate me, giving this error:

Your Stardock.net account (email) has failed to log on to the Stardock Central servers. Since you are not currently logged on to the server you will be unable to install or view any updates that are available. Please stand by while we laugh mockingly.

Ok, so I made up the last line.

What authentication is failing? Is it the same as the www.galciv.com login? I don't see anywhere in Stardock Central to edit a login password....

cmeisman, if you have only purchased Drengin.net then you should only have access to the games in Drengin.net (GalCiv, Lightweight Ninja, Corporate Machine, Stellar Frontier).

You should be other products we have on the other tabs. But you should only be able to see the shareware versions of them.

George,

Under the tools menu you should have a "Edit Stardock.net Account" option. If you do not, then you are using an old build and need to upgrade. Here's the link to the most current build: http://storage.stardock.com/files/stardockcentralrc1.exe

T-Man

Thanks, upgrading to RC1 fixed the problem!

Joe, or anyone else having the same problem as joe. Can you please export your HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stardock\ComponentManager registry key and send it to me.

I think there is something in registry that is causing the problem.

Even though I have no proxy information entered into the Stardock Central configuration, it still attempts to connect via the proxy server configured in Internet Explorer. This is bad and wrong and is one cause of the "Your stardock.net account has failed to log in" error. When I turned off the proxy (Proximotron) then I was able to log in.

Of course, GalCiv was downloading at 1.35K/s. Thanks, but I think I'll just wait about a week and see how the speed is then.

Atholbrose, you're a genius. That was my problem too. How on earth did you ever think to check this?
Actually its a Proximotron issue. It edits the incoming data. Here is information from our FAQ.

http://www.stardock.com/support/support.asp?product=55

Stardock Central fails to register my Stardock.net account and I am using AdSubtract or Proxomitron.

AdSubtract modifies the incoming data. By doing this they are corrupting the data that is being received by SDCentral. To correct this problem configure AdSubtract to not filter our servers:

In AdSubtract, on the Filters tab, add
sdcentral.stardock.com. Then select sdcentral in the
list then deselect all the checkboxes and click apply.

This will allow all sdcentral.stardock.com requests to pass through.

The same fix works for The Proxomitron, which does the same things as AdSubtract. The only difference is you have to add sdcentral.stardock.com to a text file.

FWIW, I never had any of that installed, and still encountered this problem. T-Man, it may still be worth taking a look at any regostry issues associated with SDC.

I posted this in another thread on the main board as well.

Once again I get a Crash trying to click on the "WinCustomize" button.

Here are the Details. Please, Please, Please fix this product as it appears to be the Weak Link and wholly unreliable.

Tman,
You misunderstood. (Or I misunderstood what I bought)

I purchased Drengin.net (What I thought was a 1 year subsciption like ODNT) about 2 years ago and I have not renewed. My old codes work fine. I can get the latest version and everything new. Is this the way it should be?

Nam: Yes. The clock on yur subscription won't start until tomorrow.

Toothless: Without knowing which version of SDCentral you're using it's hard to provide feedback on that. Did you literally download and install RC1? It's over in the downloads section.

Frog,
Im at home right now Diffrent loggin :notsure: Namsiem = Playdough

Let me rephrase,
Ive used Dregin for a full year 2 years ago. Expired some time in early 2002.

At the time of expire GC was talked about and not even alpha stage.

I was just able to download version:1.01.029
My SDC Ver is: 0.99c.145
My registered Name is Clayton Meisman
Am I misunderstanding something or is this a bug?

That's what I'm saying, no one's Drengin.net account has expired. We haven't really started the clock yet on it. Not until tomorrow. So a YEAR from now then you'll have to worry. ;)

T-Man -- Yes, I know Prox interferes with things. That is why I configured Stardock Central to NOT USE THE PROXY SERVER. In Tools->Setttings->Connection, there is nothing listed in the Proxy section, therefore no proxy should be used. However, Stardock Central uses the proxy configured in Internet Explorer's settings anyhow. (One guess is that SDC is not overriding the proxy settings in the IE control properly.) So, in this case, this is an SDC issue.

T-Man/Atholbrose -
I am not using Proximotron. So it can't be that.

It seems to be exactly what Atholbrose said. If you tell SDC to use "no proxy", it will use whatever proxy is set up for IE. (In my case, it pointed to a server that no longer physically exists, but since I never use IE, I never noticed.)

If you want that to be SDC's behavior, fine - but you should be explicit about that.
