I had a similar experience - I had everyone on average, and I had some fools and idiots in the mix at game end.

Judging by how easily the average civilization overwhelmed the other four, it might have been correct.

If it makes a difference, I set the alignment of everyone except the Drengins to random.

i had 2 set to neutral and 3 set to good

I have yet to see it reflect actuality. I play with the AI's usually all set to genius, galaxy huge, and planents rare. (usually 3-evil, 2-good)

Finish the game either culturally or technologicaly, metaverse reports it as cakewalk.

What's up with that??

i think cakewalk was from the beta 3 times, I believe now the level of the a.i's determines the difficulty level

My last game was against all Normal AIs, but it was reported as all Fools.

Same here, played vs 5 genuis and got a very high difficulty-level at the beginning, in the end the AIs showed up as smart and the difficulty was "Cakewalk". ´Played vs 1 evil, 1 neutral, 3 good (was evil myself).

I actually think that the metaverse is showing the difficulty correctly and the real problem is that all AI difficulty settings end up one lower than what you select (eg. genius -> smart and so on). And this is probably caused by that new brilliant AI level addition.

At least when setting AI to smart games are much much easier to win than in previous beta and even as genious they only seem to play at same level as previous smart AIs.

If you randomly pick an alien's civilization's alignment, while the screen shows intelligence as "normal", the blurb below ("let's all take a nap") might be appropriate for some other intelligence. Seems to me that indicates a mismatch between how intelligence is stored internally and the setup screen.
