File deleted

from Stardock Forums
Well I left my PC on all day downloading GC, even though I have dsl it only downloads at modem speeds. Probably due to the distances involved, I'm from the UK. However I get home to find it has downloaded but won't install, it just says file deleted. So I've started again, only another 4 hours to go. Anyway if anyone has had a similar problem and has cured it can you let me know please, thanks.

if you have aproblem again, go to tools>settings>connections>and refresh the server list and connect to US california which is dedicated t galciv. the other main server also has Wincustomize which had a huge following

Also you may wish to have right-clicked on the GalCiv program and then clicked on 'save to archive' or whatever that option is, instead of going for the default 'install'. Also, do you have .99b of SDC?

Thanks for the help, I have SDC 99b and I am archiving this time. I was just a bit disapointed cos I've been looking forward to playing all day. Well that's the way the cookie crumbles, as we say over here in Blighty.

I had the same problem, regardless of whether I archived or just "installed", though I learned quickly that it's much wiser to archive (I'm surprised this isn't the default).

Anyhow, the error was always the same, but the extracted file often changed.

Extract File: E:\Games\SDCentral\temp\Mod_Multimedia\movies\5_trade01.bi_
Result: Failed (deleted file)
Installation aborted (failed)

Anyhow, good luck on the download. I hope you have better luck than me.

I had a nice, clean install of all of GalCiv (except the windowed version, haven't tried that yet), but I get that error whenever I try to install *ANY* of the other Drengin.net games now (I figured for the extra money I might as well subscribe to the whole thing :)).

Okay, solution:

Get RC1 of Stardock Central: http://storage.stardock.com/files/stardockcentralrc1.exe

Here's the deal:

Last night we put up Stardock Central .99. But it had terrible problems. So we withdrew it. So we had to put up something in the meantime and that was version 0.98. But the "Bug" that .99 was supposed to fix was (drum roll) the deleted file bug you're running into.

RC1 fixes the bug without having the undesireable side effects that .99 had. ;)

I installed the RC1 over the existing version - it appeared to install successfully. However, when I tried to restore the archive of my already downloaded multimedia, I received the following message:

Multimedia 1.01.029 is currently installed. Are you sure you want to install Multimedia 1.0.004?

After clicking "Yes" I get the message

There was an eror installing Multimedia. The following error occurred:

Loading: E:\SDCEntral\installed\gc1.xml
Result: Success

Would you like to check the log file?

From the log file....

Result: Success

Forgot to mention. I am re-downloading the multimedia again with hopes it will work now that I've got the RC candidate installed. I will post an update here once it's done - I've got 206 minutes to go (:(
