In addition to the crashes, I was also getting the same event over and over again concerning the soldier elixir that halves their lifes. If memory serves, I got it five times in seven turns.

A few minor things noticed based on about 5 hours of gameplay.

1) Text cutoff on some descriptions, updates, and events.

2) One crash to desktop after clicking the "Ok" button after an Election. Re-loaded my last auto-save and continued playing for a couple more hours.

3) Sometimes have to click twice on the "Ok" button when notified of events. It makes the clicking sound both times too. :)

4) Sometimes after launching a ship into orbit, I can't click on the ship. I have to use the "Find" button to get to it.

As I said...all minor stuff (cept for the crash to desktop). Sorry I don't have more details, but I wasn't debugging...I was playing. Hehe. Love the game!

I am having a problem with the game crashing to the desk top with no error. It seems to happen at random times, and can happen three times in an hour or only once every three hours.
My system:
p4 1.6a
asus p4b motherboard
1 gig ram (matched)
MSI GF4 Ti4200 128Meg video- using the NVidia 40.72(? I think) drivers.
SB Audigy Platinum EX sound
DirectX 9
Windows 2000 - latest service packs and updates
no raid, but using two harddrives with the virtual memory on a different drive than the game.

Besides this, the game is just great. I haven't been this taken with a game since Alpha Centauri - but it is anoying that is crashes out. I should also mention that on my lesser Athalon machine it runs fine, but that computer is not geared for games...

Send me an email at [email protected] if you need any aditional information about this problem.

Ships will fly through sectors that are not in range, but wont let you send the ships directly into that sector. Ive used this to scope out sectors that are just not in control. Not sure if you could send a colony ship in and colonize a planet though.

On the Foreign Policy/Stats screen for the Torian Federation it says (among other things) "Overall Ranking ... Overall: 3rd". If I then click along to my Domestic Policy/Stats screen it says (for my culture obviously) "Overall Ranking ... Overall: 3rd". I find it difficult to believe we're tied for third with all of the finely granulated stats that are being taken into consideration?

Posted this erroneously to the "UI Questions" thread. I'll repeat myself:

On my "Domestic Policy/Stats/Economy" report it says "Tribute: 4294966899 bc/turn" which (1) isn't correct and (2) I'm certainly not actually getting

In the "INCOME" portion of this, the right coloumn (the one with the numbers in it) is shifted down one notch wrt to the left coloumn (the one with the headers such as "Leases:" in it). This is because the abovementioned Tribute line has wrapped around and pushed down the below second-coloumn stuff one notch but the first-coloumn stuff hasn't noticed.

I have set my taxation level to 0%, and I get 107bc in tax revenue (the number just to the right of the tax slider). Are these spontaneous gifts from my overjoyed subjects?

At one point I went crazy and bought (for cash) Ultra Spices and a number of wonder type social projects on Earth. I can't see them anywhere. Do they just disappear when you buy multiple projects in a row (during the same turn)? They're not buildable anymore but they're not actually sitting anywhere either.

I don't know about the taxation question. Perhaps they are just so happy they are giving you money :)

Now as for the other issues... the exceedingly high tribute value could be caused by some issue like the other civilization running out of money/going into debt. I believe I saw something about numbers wrapping like that in another thread.

The building issue... well... you are basically buying the production necessary to build the item in the queue in one month (by next turn)... so you have to advance at least one turn after buying something or it won't be built. It does sound like a bug that, once you buy something, it's marked as built even if you didn't advance the necessary turn to actually have the project completed and get the benefit of it's effects.

The Altarians were two sectors away from me. I had colonized two of three good systems (influence >11) in the sector between us, when an Altar colony ship arrives and colonizes the third - as their Capital???, least according to the capital icon on the planet. This was early on and I had been closely competing with them in influence, there had been no wars yet. I assume this is a bug.

There is a coloured circle to the lower left of the main window which proudly announces itself as showing the spending power of the various races. It is all purple. Was this invented by the same people that make emergency level codes in the military? ''Our spending power is currently at "Purple"'' ...

The purple race (Yor) isn't particularly wealthy. They have 463bc compared to my 30,000bc.

I am currently playing in the biggest galaxy with all AIs set to max intelligence. I met the Carinoids early on and noticed they had 3 systems with 2-3 colony ships in each. They had no ships actually travelling around. Just to their west (the closest was 6 squares from one of their systems) there was a bunch of really juicy systems. It took me a year or two to crank out the colony ships and get them there, but I eventually colonized them.

It seems buggy that a very clever AI shouldn't have colonized them given that he had sufficient resources to do so. There were millions of peeps on his planets also so he had enough to send out.

I built Harmony Crystals at some point. Several months later, I get a message that the Altarians have developed Harmony Crystals and that they have a monopoly on them.

This was after I had traded the crystals to them.

The crash to desktop -> reload to a red screen is an error I've hit upon as well. When I reloaded to a prior auto-saved game it crashed again around the next auto-save. Only that time I was able to load back into most recent save with no problems.

Then about an hour later I got the infinate->waiting for the next turn issue that was reported by another user on post #55. The wierd thing is that I could kick out of the loop(by moving a ship or something), but my forces couldn't engage an enemy planet. It'd put an auto-pilot point onto the planet(even though I was already right next to it) and when I'd hit the next turn button it'd go into an infinate wait.

Considering I was getting my butt kicked and my forces were making a Dolittle run for the enemy's home system, it was quite frustrating. LOL

I found a few problems when I played the first few turns

1) If I send a colony ship to a system and then do not choose a planet to land the colonists on (I click on the sector map rather than the list of planets), the game crashes back to windows.

2) When I change the tax rate and have the planet list open on the right, the morale values do not change until I go over and click on each one. I was trying to balance my taxes against the morale of individual planets.

3) I noticed that if I set the military spend rate to 0 and then purchase a ship, it does not get built. It might be nice to either be notified that the ship will not be delivered since there is no military production or to just get the ship since I paid for it.

On the whole, I am enjoying the game and I haven't even met any of the other races as yet. I think that you have a winner ;)

I have Excactly the same problem as Mythor (message #48 here above) with metaverse.

And i have finished two games and i got the "delicious juice from severe rash" maybe twelve times (five of them in five turns-ok, it got cheaper and cheaper to be "good" there)

The problems people have been seeing in trade goods extends to wonders as well. I've completed wonders, received the effect of the wonder, only to get a popup later saying that someone else had received the same wonder.

I'll pay more attention next time to see if I loose the effect of the wonder.

1. I have had one instance of two economic capitals being built. Long ago I had built it in on Sol, but then later in the game I saw it being constructed on Nestro through the 'Generic' build que. I`ve also had some trade goods do this as well (which I thought were supposed to be unique?)

2. The event where you recieve an armada of Precusor Corvettes happens too often, or alternatively gives too many ships..

3. I also have the same problem as post #52 by Citizen Ancient Warrior except that I cannot alter the spying on minor races.

4. The game always starts with the same two minor races - the Alexians & the Carinoids.

5. Minor race difficutly is too high (or unalterable?). I`ve played two games so far with all races set on Fool or Beginner, but the minor races are always far ahead of everyone else in every way. After so many turns into the game they have about twice my technology (and I play technologist). The Carinoids also constantly pump out trade goods and galactic wonders..

Unique Trade Items NOT Unique

If a human or AI player completes research on a unique trade item (one per game) and another AI player already had the unique trade item in his queue, it is not removed, resulting in the AI player building the same unique trade item a few turns later.
I think the problem - Item not being removed from build queue of other civs, if one completes it - is true for all unique items trade goods and wonders.

A bug and its solution:

After a few turns into each game, the system would semi-freeze: the turn button would display it's clock, and would not send you to the next turn. You can click about, look at your planets, move ships which still have movement points - but not start the next turn.
So, not a true crash but a strange holdup.
Also, the music had to be turned off, as it stuttered badly.

System configuration:
AMD 2100 CPU
512MB RAM
Terratec Sky 5.1 Sound Card
Windows 98SE
GeForce 4600i

Solution:

a) Update from DirectX 8 to latest version: 9.0a
b) Update sound drivers

I'm not sure which of these two points caused the game to run properly again (I think I already had the latest sound drivers), but everything is working fine now, including the music (which is great, btw!).

Hope this might help somebody with a similar problem.

Ciao

Finally managed to complete a game without dying, but I spotted more bugs.

Game is excellent enough that I am not too upset (merely irritated) about the many crashes to the desktop I get.

The game crashes (apparently randomly) when the turn button is pressed.

Others have mentioned the infinite-turn problem (where the clock icon is displayed for ever) and this might be the same thing, or related; after the production report, a planet screen is diplayed. If I click on turn while this screen is up the clock icon appears, but nothing happens. I need to click on the "done" button of the planet screen and only then is the turn actually processed.

The oddest bug I have had yet is: I formed and alliance with the A_something (we had been at war previsouly because I attacked a former ally of theirs, whom we had since wiped out; we were not allied while we wiped him out) when the turn processed I received a message from "A" that they were declaring war on me because I was at war with myself and that they needed to honor their alliance to me and hence had to declare war on me. I clicked that away and got another message from them telling me that they were going to honor their alliance to me by coming to my aid and by declaring war on me!

I finally beat the game and tried to submit it to the metaverse. The game triggered my firewall, I approved the app and then the game crashed back to the desktop. I decided it must have been the firewall interaction that caused the problem, so i resumed the last game, played to the end once more and tried again and it crashed straight back to the desktop. Third time the same.

I'm trying to connect via a NAT gateway (shared internet connection). I have no problems with Stardock nor stellar frontier so i suspect it's not my setup, but i could be wrong.

In my first game my scout ship came upon the Arceans and I got a message from them "Leave us alone or face our wrath blah blah..." and the game crashed to desktop.

An empire surrendered itself to me. It had two planets, both of which were building battlecruisers (something that I had yet to discover for myself). As both planets were now mine, battlecruiser was an option I could not choose. Leave well alone and see what happens I thought, and lo as regular as clockwork, they both continued to build battlecruisers for me. Now thats a bug surely? :notsure:
