I figured since it is inevitable, I will start a thread to get ideas out on a star wars mod. Who will the sides be? What will the map look like? Units? Tech? etc.

Yeah, the war itself was very important, and its portayal in the movies was awesome...as was the animated version.

But the 3D version....like the movie that just recently came out....sucked.

Plus, is it just me...or is it that all of the ships that were produced in the clone wars just looked bad-ass?

Im with you! The ships in that era is awesome and deadly! Remember the point-blank range battle between the Venator and the Invisible Hand ship of general grievous?

There are more...in time,Clone Wars shudnt been ignored at all...btw the venator in this mod is able to bombard planets?!! I was shocked! if just they add the colonize option and the venator will be at prime.

Forgive me for being forgetful, but in the mod....will the Venator have Arc-170s for fighters and V-wings for bombers? That would be pretty freaking cool.

One thing I have noticed with games that have the ARC-170: the rear-firing turret never seems to be functional.

V-Wings aren't bombers, though. They are light interceptors. Don't trust Battlefront. Ever.

ARC-170's could handle bomber duties in my opinion with V-wing/Jedi starfighters on fighter duty. Depends on how big a Jedi prescence you'd be comfortable with having.

In the interest of keeping this thread alive, I'm going to thow some stuff out there for discussion.

First, I was looking at EvilleJedi's website for this mod, and I found the in game pics of the SSD. It is epic! Its bigger than a planet!

Second, does anyone have any idea when the final 1.1 patch will come out? I remember EJ saying that he would wait for  the release of the patch before he releases the mod to make sure that it works. All I know is that another Beta 1.1 is supposed to come out at the end of the month and the final 1.1 will come out after that. Is the final version going to be out before Entrenchment is released?

That brings me to another question. Will Entrenchment be incorporated into the mod?

Finally, I want to provide you with your worthless piece of Star Wars Trivia for the day. There are actually two V-Wings. One is the Clone Wars era one that was in Episode III. The other one is from the first Star Wars: Rogue Squadron that was for the N64.

It would be cool if the planets were sized accordingly in the mod, because a 11 or so mile long SSD, though it dwarfs every other ship, is a fraction of the size of a planet.   Even the death star was only small moon sized.   Assuming the planet in the picture is Earth sized, then that makes the SSD over 8,000 miles long!  :O   Nevertheless, even if the planet sizes don't get changed it won't be that big of a deal.

Very true, but if planets were sized correctly, you would end up with giant planets with little tiny ships that take forever to get anywhere. Besides, how awesome would it be to have an 8,000 mile long SSD?

I've debated making planets about 4x bigger, but there are other issues with that....

 

okay so a little update on progress, in interest of getting something playable out I am focusing almost exclusively on getting the entity files completed even if it means that a ship has a generic rigging (meaning it has a front, left, right, back fire point for each gun, but not placed correctly, just enough to work) part of the issue is I was trying to finish up final textures and models for some ships even though I have perfectly good older models that could be used, so I will import the older models and textures for the time being and get things in and playable. I am also adjusting the stats to be more in line with the stock ships (but I can't at all gaurantee balance, I'm not going to touch them for a long time) and I am going to temporarily revert back to the old size and speeds for gravity wells (basically I need to see 1.09/1.1 final to actually change those things, so I am going to change back to the stock game distances until I know what the impact of the expansion will be)

in short the next version may be rougher looking, but should play a lot better and have another race to play as

EvilleJedi: Thank you for the update. Keep up the excellent work. And it is totally fine if the ships don't look "new." So long as I can command an SSD and Home One, I will be happy. I wanted to use those ships so bad, I actually reinstalled EaW. Admiral Ackbar owns your souls! But seriously, keep up the good work, and thank you for your mod.

oh and when I do release the next version it will be an new thread, currently I am working with 1.05 because I don't know how many people have the beta patch. so unless they hurry up with the patch before entrenchment I will probably release it for the current stable version.

Does this mean that we can expect a release before Entrenchment comes out? That would be awesome. I was just hoping for a release before the holidays, but this totally makes my day. Scratch that, it makes my month, at least.

First, make it for 1.05.  Then once the 1.1 FINAL Reference Data is out, update it for that.

 

That's how modders are doing things now.  The BETA is taking a while so people are just saying "Screw 1.1!" and making their mods for 1.05, with plans to update.

THIS IS IDEAS FOR THE MOD PEOPLE!!! I would suggest that you either use the Clone ships and CIS ships, OR you could make it later in the movies. Like the Rebles and Clones... that would be fine IF the freaking rebles didnt steal clone ships all the time. So i would suggest Clone/CIS war... and as far as a map goes why not use Galaxy Forge... it works great, and you could just upload the map into the mod... i did the same thing many times on Sims 2
