BTW - In an effort to 'jumpstart' the AAR section of this website, I'm going to try and come up with my own soon. I've just got to get a good game going. I going to end up posting it on this website and the ToE site, so keep on the look out in the next week or two.

*sigh* This has been a very long, yet interesting day; at least for me.

Best Regards.

issat anything like the warp 10 barrier?

In the words of Buffy Summers "I think I speak for everyone when I say 'huh".  Ok, perhaps not everyone, but I guess I never watched too much ST.

But I get the gist, some theoretical barrier that cannot be breached due to the ship ripping apart or too much immediate drawo n the engine's core....

Classic ST or TNG?

:)

Or perhaps VOY?

(You know what I'm talking about.)

And then there was that episode where they had to set a limit on all starships because of high-warp speeds causing rips in the space-time continuum.

And dont forget the trans-warp drive...  Ah, pseudoscience. ;)

it was explored primarily in the Voyager ep "Threshold." though i use the term "explained" loosely.

Transwarp is a catch-all for speeds greater than warp 10 (or propulsion methods capable of it). using cochrane's method of FTL travel (at least for humans, it's cochrane's method), warp 10 means infinite velocity. also note in TOS they were using a (retroactively explained) different scale of warp, so in the few instances they say things like "warp 13", it roughly means warp 7 or so in TNG's scale.

Hey guys:

I just wanted to let everyone know that - as a 2nd part of my "Jumpstart" plan - I have created a post entitled "The Metaverse Recruiting Center". This will allow anyone new to the game or to the MV to make themselves known or ask some MV-related questions that they might have. Any comments that you've got would be much appreciated. Thanks and Best Regards.

I just released the 3rd part of my plan. The post is entitled "The Mod Development and Exchange Center". This will allow people to have a general forum where they can talk about everything Mod. There are also some helpful links in that thread that will help people to get around the Mod section of the forums a little easier. Check it out sometime and any comments that you have would be much appreciated. Thanks and Best Regards.

BTW - I told you guys that I was going to have a busy weekend.

Hey guys. Yes, that's right, I've finished part 4 for my project. The post is entitled "The War Room". It's a place for new players to ask any questions that they have about strategy in GalCiv2, and it gives the veterans a chance to help out with their problems.

Notice: This DOES NOT replace the new topic in the ToE forums about helpful links around the forums. BTW - great job with that thread, dystopic.

The purpose of the War Room is not to provide links, just some helpful tips and tricks for new players who may not be a part of the ToE, or who may not know about dystopic's new thread.

I hope that this is the last time that I ever have to triple-post. Any comment you have are greatly appreciated. Thanks and Best Regards.

BTW - If you don't feel like searching the forums for my projects, I have them all linked to my thread entitled "A Call to Action..."

Yeah, that's just a shout out to all other recovered MMO addicts (or current MMO addicts).

o_O was never an MMO addict myself: i saw that from the other side of things. my brother was an EQ addict for years. then he got a girlfriend. er, a girlfriend who WASN'T in EQ (which is to say, who wasn't a creepy old man in RL).

That's patently unfair.

I know at least three girls who played MMOs who I've met in real life.

MMOs are for...well, MMO people  . Needless to say I am not one, never was, and hopefully never will be :) .Those people take their games way too seriously, now it's time to go get me a ToE 4Life tattoo ;P

To be honest most the people on MMO games are too serious and it pisses me off. Why can't they have fun once-in-a-while and play tag or something? (Yes I play tag on online games, dispite how it looks it's actually quiet fun). There is just not enough freedom.

Starcraft is too serious, orge island is just plain boring, Tank Balls is too quick, phantasy star has too many glitches and Wonderland is too hard. When will they make a decent online game?

starcraft was a lot of fun back in the day when it wasn't just pros playing, and it's still fun with your friends.

The people who seem to thrive on the newer MMOs, or at least play MMOs anymore are moreso out for their ePeen.  Back in the day of EQ's glory days, there was a fine community feel going on.  That doesn't exist in the newer games, nor anymore in EQ.  It's about making your paper-doll shinery and better than anybody else's.

actually online identity is one of the sub-topics that interests me; as with most things, i think it's too complicated to make a general statement about everyone who participates. however i'd tend to agree that narcissism is a large factor.

actually i just watched an ep of big bang theory all about that.

i'm waiting for new eps of BSG, Smallville, Fringe and now this. actually that reminds me, when exactly does BSG resume?

how long since you been on dyst? Starcraft has gotten a bit quiter really, all the pro players still play but their no fun coz they scou you for an simple mistake. their too intent on winning they forget it's a game. what pisses me off more is that they put pro's only on their games and kick me when I've played before (or maybe that because i'm just a plan bad player on normal games). either way the battle.net has lost it's old charm, I guess with all good things it must come to an end some time. either by them closing the server or lack of popularity.

Loup, what have you guys been watching? and I agree, MMO have lost their touch.

it's been a very, very long time.

but isn't the point to win? yes. well, having fun too. and i can have fun losing just as much as winning if it's a good, challenging game against people at about my level. and sorry, but if you make a mistake and others catch it, they deserve to win and you deserve to lose. them's the breaks. i'm not advocating cheese tactics like the zergling rush, but this is a competative game. it's not like the kind of cheese you see in MMOs, and starcraft was never an MMO.
