My long time friends, the Arceans, slowly turned on me as they picked off other civilizations one by one. I was not in a good starting position so I couldn`t start to build up myself (although in retrospect maybe I could). I just sat out the game building a trade empire and watching how things progressed.
In the end the Arceans defeated all other major races, minor races, and monsters.. except for me. The fact that we had been 'close' since early in the game started to mean very little as they extorted me and referred to me as 'surrender monkey'. I also think this is a bit odd by the fact that I controlled a whopping 30% of their economy through trade and was their sole trading partner.
So.. whats the deal? Expand or die?
Very early in the game I demanded a tech from them and this caused their people to 'resent' me, but our national relations were good. Could this be the motive for the decaying relationship? How do you restore popular sentiment in another empire?
Finally, how do you make alliances? I was trying to ally with them earlier but could never find the option. If I were an actual ally would I recieve the same treatment?
