Microsoft extends Windows XP's stay

Computer makes and users just don't want to give up their XP

c/net News.com article should make some people happy and others possibly trying to figure out just what is going on in the Microsoft Empire.

There was an article last week identifying that Computer Manufactures were being authorized by Microsoft to offer downgrades from Vista Business and Vista Ultimate if their customers requested it.

Todays article now puts a time frame on being able to buy a computer with XP, extending it from 31 Jan '08 to 30 Jun '08.

Bowing to pressure from customers and computer makers, Microsoft plans to keep Windows XP around a little longer.

Microsoft, for its part, sought to downplay the impact of the move, disagreeing with the notion that there is still strong demand for XP.

Wonder how many compters with XP loaded on them are going to be purchased during the upcoming Holiday Season? Will they be the bargains or will we see prices come down on Vista loaded systems?

If it's anything like here in Oz, from what I've been seeing so far, new PC's loaded with XP will actually cost more than their Vista counterparts....the premise being there is a diminished supply - in other words, harder to get so the consumer pays more for the trouble of having to get it in.

Technically speaking, they should be costing less....but they don't.
