Just what I asked for and then some.. maybe I have some pull with the devs after all ;)

The big question is if animation within the models themselves is supported, rather then just being able to impose rotation on any part.

Also added was a new 'Favorites' tab, so you can identify your favorite jewelry peices for quick-access.

Just a suggestion, but i noticed the rotation speed slider starts pretty fast (i know it's slow compared to the fastest setting), it would be nice to make the slow end of the spectrum a little slower than it is now.

Also, though it may be my imagination, it appears as though once you actually build an animated ship and it's on the map, the animation speed is 1 tick higher when displayed on the main map, than it is in the shipyard.

I like the animated parts, and have used them to represent spinning sensor dishes and engine effects.

One thing I'd like to see for additional eye candy is blinking running lights.

I tried designing all my models using lights but the ones we have now just don't do it...

Glad you like the rotating parts.  There is a play/pause button as mentioned in a post above that will stop the animation so you can place more parts.  The animation is in play mode by default when you start a new ship or start modifying an existing ship.

I thought I noticed the same thing too.  I will have to look into it to see what's going on there as to why it looks faster.

Oddly enough, I've never found that pause button. I must search harder, I guess!

Holy CRAP is it ever fun to make animated ships. I haven't tried anything TOO wild, yet, but I have some ideas.

Is there any chance this could be taken further, beyond a simple constant rotation? Components that could oscillate (in the manner of pistons) would be a great addition, and I can't help but think that combat-only animations would be a ridiculous amount of fun. Weapons ports opening, wings locking into position (like an X-Wing), delicate sensors retracting for protection, generators spinning up... I can think of so many cool combat based animations that could be done.

you guys really need to lighten up with all these new additions... while i'm not a huge gamer, there are a few other titles coming out soon that i'd like to play. but with all this work going into TA, i don't know if i'll be able to tear myself away from it! ;)

Its between the "Move" button and the adjust part size slider.
