What am I not thinking correctly?

I can not get passed this simple thing

What am I missing here, WHY OH WHY should it not be a simple matter to create a link, hyperlink, to a file on my own pc, in any little program that supports hyperlinking? I google and google for the syntax, and other than all the dirty little "would you like to by a watch real cheap, here on the street" entries, I find no clues. It it somthing to do with the securities and permissions? how is it I can link to a file in outer space, with ease, but not to one on my OWN COMPUTER? Just please someone tell me to give up, or that it is simple???Just what do I need to know and HOW on EARTH should I be asking the question? Please and THANKYOU!

Bottom line - you can't link to a file on your PC ... it must be on the web.

I could go into a long explanation about public vs. private networks yada yada yada but I digress.  :)

You should be able to if you set your PC up as an FTP server.

Unsure as to why you would go to that much trouble to do so though. :NOTSURE:

The Reason? I thought it would be cool. On any given calender, that has reoccuring tasks, ect. to just be able to click on to that to link to the form that has been saved, in a folder, as a file, on MY OWN PC, in order to complete the task. Example: every month I have to file a "decal report" on 10th. I have the blank form in a folder on pc. When i set the reminder, what would be SO DIFFICULT to jsut be able to click the reminder and have the blank form pop up? That cant be such a trick? People must be doing it. ? just not dumb me?

NO! open word, open your documents folder, copy address, paste into word. It becomes a hyperlink, and you can click + ctrl and IT WILL OPEN. What is that?

Maybe you could also be a little more specific? From which calendar?

If you're talking desktopX it can easily be added, I can add a local hyperlink in Lightening in Thunderbird and while I haven't used Outlook in years that was definitely possible even back in 2000. Now if you're talking Rainlendar it's not possible ATM but, scripting is to be added.

Rite now, Im trying with Mozilla's Sunbird calendar.I tried KALENDRA and RAIN.
I see what you are saying, sort of, SirSmiley, and thanks for the direction!Ive stayed away from desktopx, trying to keep things simple, but I WILL try that.I see what your saying i think.

That's a 'Shortcut'. On your own computer you can right click it and make it a shortcut anywhere on your machine (and most apps) that you want. You can paste the address in any browser (save it as a bookmark if you want) or explorer address bar and the file will open....as long as it's on your computer. Everything you do on your machine loops back to IP 127.0.0.1 (that's you). Your computer trusts you.....most of the time ;p

so. are you actually saying i can right click, create shortcut, and navigate to a date in a calendar, like,(any)(most) say windows calendar? I promise, I thought of that, and tried it, and then thought there was something i did NOT understand.I figured i was going backwards? What if i put 127.0.0.1 befor the file? LOL! So sorry to bother ! I cant figure why or what I am not explaining correctly. Why can I not just link a file on my pc to a "cell" in a calendar. DesktopX may be a clue?(yes this is really a dumb person)

You obviously have Office so I'll use 'Outlook' as an example:

If want the whole calendar you create a shortcut: outlook:\\Personal%20folders/calendar

If you want one day you create a shortcut: outlook:\\Personal%20folders

If you create an Event on any given day, then insert the file you want to open in the event. When the Reminder pops up, click on it and then click on inserted file. That's as simple as it gets short of scripting it.

Thanks for you help yrag! Im actually don't have office, though. Just the windows calendar Vista includes. But, think I am happy now! This "UK's Kalendar" allows you to "link a program or document to an event"! All I ever wanted, with bells and whistles!My reoccuring tasks are almost fully automated! :) Thanks!

umm...yeah I was wrong about Thunderbird. Couldn't get the local files to work even changing the path to what works in Fx.
