Newbie Fog of War Question

Ok, the smaller strategic map shows you all the stars in the galaxy. Click your mouse in an area of the small strategy map. It will take the large tactical map to that area. If there's stars on the small map, but not on the big map, then you haven't explored that area yet.

There are many other things floating in space, like bonus junk, etc. It sounds to me like you need to turn up your brightness as well. Otherwise you would be seeing the bonus floating space junk.

Thanks. That is helpful. However, once I explore a sector, how can I determine at a glance whether it is within my sensor range or not?

I have exactly the same problem. It is not uncovering for the first time, it is after that. One thing I noticed is that the areas look different when you scroll. But something has to be done to have esier distinction.

The explored stuff re-fogs with a -very- dark dotted blue tint. It's similar to the "your influence" blue tint in the minimap that everyone's bitching about. It's much easier to see over, say, an obscured star system but if your gamma's high enough you can see it in empty space too.
