I sure hope Vista SP1 final is more stable

I'm using the "release candidate" of Windows Vista SP1 and so far, it's been pretty buggy.  My big grief is with Internet Explorer. It regularly will just hang. It doesn't take down the system but there's nothing quite so annoying as having a long post you're working on get lost because IE7 just starts to hang.

I'm really going to have to reconsider using Safari I guess at this rate.

That and DesktopX requiring UAC to be enabled caused me to restore the back up I created prior to the install. I have to have the ability to print to PDF and UAC will not allow it to happen.
Brad, is the DesktopX issue being looked at?

There are a number of issues with SP1, IE7 is the least of them. For now FF works ok.

I do hope, however, the final release of SP1 is all we need it to be. We do not need another disappointment. The file copy and network sharing problems of Vista appear improved. There are so many features of SP1 disabled in the rc however, it is difficult to make an accurate assessment of the upgrade. I for one will be waiting to see how people react to the full version of SP1 before committing myself.

Thanks for the early impressions of the SP.  I hope it gets better over time, but am somewhat concerned that a release candidate would be that bad.  That's not a good place to be at that point in the cycle.

Any reason why you don't use Firefox? :SURPRISED:

I just found this comment on some other site but scary enough to make me think twice before upgrading:

Well I tried vista sp1 and I wasn't really impressed. For one, I lost all (visual)themes (expected) but also lost aero. Not only that half of the shortcuts from the startmenu, and desktop wont work, not to mention to ones in explorer ex Personalize, Control Pannel and System properties. So after a few minutes I decided to system restore back to vista RTmM.
