Learning how to spell or at least proof read your post.

Things to consider before you post.

Don't post till you check your spelling. I know it might be difficult but why look like someone with a second grade education when you know you can do better. I think most just post and never look back to read what they have written first. Maybe you look after you post and think "oh no" did I really do that? Most miss-spelled words are just that, the person couldn't spell it, some are just silly as in the word wallpapers or problem, those look like someone who is frustrated but I think just re-reading your work is a must before you post. No one here might say anything but we do think it. There is no spell check for the posts here and I have been at other sites that have them and people seem to think they are too smart to use them.  I would say to that, so sorry but your post didn't make the cut because you didn't spell check. Here there isn't that option so you must proof read your post first and if you are not sure of the spelling please look up the word first to make sure you look like someone took a little time to read before you post. I do this for my own sanity. I try very hard to make sure I at least try to spell it right before I post. I might not be the brightest bulb in the box but I don't want to look like the broken bulb either. Please just check before you post and save the people here from looking at these mistakes and try to use "Caps" where needed. Couldn't hurt. Thanks from someone who goes crazy when she views posts like this.

How you say a thing tells us much more than what you say. And like the kid with poor dress, the image you portray is directly related to your future success.
I am in SO much trouble.

...and at least try to use a reasonable standard of English. That last post's meaning is so garbled it's a perfect example of how not to write ;)

I can see your point clearly. This bothers me too. There is a lazy or indifferent attitude toward spelling and grammar these days. Yes, part of it is lack of education. (Even part of that is, they are just not smart enough to understand what they are learning)

Yes, it is true that there is a problem with the "accepted" standards we use to teach out children. Your complaint should be directed to your local congressman and school system. I know most of them would probably listen to your dilemma.

But, this is just a forum for ALL to use including the uneducated, lazy, and the rest of the masses.

As long as I understand what is trying to be communicated, it is not such a big deal. At least here in the forums.

Yes, this was proofread once. It took about 10 seconds.

this is just a forum for ALL to use including the uneducated, lazy, and the rest of the masses.

In my experience it is very often the very people that write as if they were mentally disabled who claim to "know it all" and who are so very full of themselves because they think they are "l33t". (I think they are not aware that they scream to the world: 'I am a kid in the midst of my puberty, and my raging hormones are making me believe that I am the center of the Universe')

People, whose first language is not English, or people who really have a disability often seem to put more thought into their text than those immature kids.

I see it that way;

If you want to be treated like a reasonable sentient being, behave that way. That includes communicating in a manner that is understandable for "the masses", exactly because this forum is for everyone (including a lot of non-English speaking people).

If you are really "just lazy" and can't be bothered to communicate in a decent manner, you can still do that. Just don't expect to be taken seriously, as the majority here will react in a "lazy" way too.

I am happy to be a dinosaur. :)

It's an interesting observation to see aufisch, who is not a native English speaker, writing with a better standard of English than the English speakers...  ;)

hehehe...

The unfortunate thing is that most people just don't care about image. I believe the prevalent train of thought is this: "It's the internet...who really gives a sh*t?"...

It seems that proper use of the English language is in a rapid decline. It's been a few years since I was in high school....do they still teach English there?

Of course they do.

"John Corcoran graduated from college and taught high school for 17 years without being able to read, write or spell. . . . [more]"
