Good lord help me get an alliance!

I've been playing for about a week now, and usually take the evil routes because the options are just so much more fun. Usually though, when I'm evil, either everyone hates me or I get the fundamentalists event. So I started a game with everyone good except the furry red guys (Drengins?) who were pure evil. I figured everyone would be after them and I'd be able to get an alliance with someone. Well, it almost worked. Everyone is getting beat on by the bad guys. They've attacked me twice, but I fought them off both times. I've got 3 of the other 4 races friendly with me, (I'm up to 84 on the goodness rating) but I can't get them to go above friendly. I've never had anyone over friendly with me. I'm feeding these people tech and ships like candy to help them out, I've given them all the alliance tech to make sure they had it. Heck, I gave up a system with 36, 24, 19, and 18 quality planets to try to get them more than friendly, but all they do is thank me, then come back 4 or 5 turns later begging for more. What the heck do I have to do to get these people to ally with me? I'm their only hope to survive, and they know it. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you got all your allowed trade routes up and running? That can be a good way to bump up their liking of you. You could also trying buying stuff off them for a long term 'lease' amount?

Well, the race I traded the system to, the Yor, are the same race I have all of my trade routes with because they're furthest away. I haven't tried to buy anything, they don't have any techs that I don't and I don't know if I dare to take any of their ships considering how hard they're being pressed. I'll give that a shot though, see if I can find a scout ship or something and buy it for a rediculous amount.

Maybe it's possible that you hand over so much tech, ships, planets that they want to eliminate you in the future.
I don't know how the AI reacts on that.(often the AI will be sucking up 2 you if you got an advantage, they will be eager to be friends, alliances might pull off)

Also research diplomacy alot.

I have seen trading in the diplomatic screen does not help much. The only gift that really seems to have an affect are ships when the recieving civilization is loosing a war. Like in the last game I was at war with the Altarians for about 1-2 years, then the Drengin attacked the Altarians too and started to conquer some of their territory. I made peace with the Altarians, in the next turn I got a request to help them, so I gave them a Dreadnougth and surprisingly the turn after that I got a request for an alliance.
Another good way is to create trade routes, I have seen whenever you control about 30% of their economy they always ally.
