Windowed Version, where to find?

While perusing the game examples in the Encyclopedia, I read that there was a Windowed version of the game available as a free download. As this would facilitate having a tech chart, and maybe the pdf version of the manual available in a quick separate window, instead of the Alt-Tab sequence, I would very much like to find and download this particular feature.

btw, Thanks for the Great Game and more inportantly, the Great tech support. :)

It's available for download through Stardock Central, like all the other updates. Login to SDC, select Software, and beneath GalCiv you'll see options to DL the multimedia files, bonus pak, pdf manual, and windowed-version EXE.

Thanks, for the quick response... I had not downloaded StarDock Central yet, which explains why I couldn't find it anywhere.

. .... and if u can't get to stardock central cause u have no access to alter an apartment-level firewall??

All I want is to play the windowed version (my 21" screen has a problem at 1024x768@75hz - it whistles - and the game isn't smart enough to allow Directx to over-ride it's refresh rate settings) - why can't u simply make it available on the downloads page?

A very upset user who has owned the game for 14days and never played it. I also like the .txt files that SAY multiple resolutions are possible..... sheesh.

Hmm, if you don;t have SDC, you probably wont have 1.04.059 - this is a feature of that version. You may have to wait until you can download that version.

(If you have 059 or later,
Just change your command line in the shortcut to have a space W at the end, so:
"C:\Program Files\StarDock\galciv.exe" w
Works great for me, although some users report not being able to make it work. (I am WinXPPro)

Make sure you are in 16-bit (65000) colors first though - if will close to desktop immediately with a different resolution.

Um, I don't think that any of our files say that you can change resolution.  Strategy First might have put that in by mistake.

If you have a friend with an internet connection, or a connection at work, you could install stardock central there, download the files, archive them and burn them to a CD.  Otherwise, we'll probably be putting up the standalone patch soon.
