Holy Precursor Corvettes, Batman!

I don't know if this is supposed to happen, but when one of my planets found a "few" precursor corvettes, they found more than a few. Next thing I knew, I had 84 precursor corvettes ready for action! I'm pretty sure no one is going to mess with me now, but is this a normal occurance? :P

Yes it is a random event.I've gotten as few as 2 and as many as a hundred.

I got about 100. Quite annoying really - it really slowed down the game, and they were pretty obsolete at the time for anything except intimidating AIs with your military rating.

I usually get 100 when this happens.
It is the same kind of random event as finding a Ranger.
I usually Fleet them into one unit, which at 100 can be formidable.

There is another event that is similar where you government has a falling out with another government (lack of espionage spending).

Their government is financed by a merchant and corvettes appear all over the galaxy. Really annoying and almost impossible to sue for peace.

It can also slow down the AI as they have to pay for the upkeep of all those obselete ships.

The corvette event is fun no matter who gets it, in my opinion. The human can either become the supreme commerce raider and kamikaze commander of all he surveys (as in sending the corvettes all around the map to slay enemy mini-freighters and any ships one feels are worth throwing wimpy corvettes at until it dies), or, as mentioned by other devious minds, giving them away to make them someone else's problem so the alien can play kamikaze commander.

I do like it better when it is a later game event and one of the aliens get them, though. So nice to see swarms of corvettes being smashed asunder against battleships, dreads, or something even nastier. Preferably against another alien, of course.

In my last gigantic game I had the event where the emperor of another civilization is assassinated during talks and they declare war on your. Down below came the note that to make it worse someone sold them arms or something like it.

I ended up with my allies the Altarian declaring war on me causing all other civs to join in cause they were all allied somehow between each other.
Additionally those "arms" were Corvette Class ships with the name "Die Humans" (funny). The problem was that there were literally thousands of them scattered through all the galaxy. My game nearly locked up cause my AMD64 with 1 Gig RAM had problems to handle all this.

I ended my turn and it took like half an hour to do the fights for the AI. This went on for like 10 or more rounds until I finally cleaned the galaxy lol.
