Norton Internet Security and SDCentral

Can somebody tell me how to configure Norton Internet Security so SDcentral works?


Something changed in the latest release of SDcentral.

After it autonatically updated and I let SDCentral have access. I get a pop-up saying SD-Central can not access registration server.

Internet Security says SDcentral has access all ports.

Tech, check your Personal Firewall, I think i had the same problem! Just set SDcentral to User Category 1, it should be ok!

I will check again.

I do not think I found a setting called User Category.

The first time a program attempts to access the internet. Norton Security asked it the program can have access.

I let SDCentral have access on all ports.

Did not work.

I even added SDCentral.exe manually to the program list,

Allowed SDCentral Java, Cookies, Pop-up, active-X... everything.

Did not work.


I must add in the past Norton Internet Security caused no problems. It is only with the New Verision of SDCentral I have problem.

The old version SDCentral which I liked better, IT WORKED!! all I had to do was let SDCentral access the internet.

I think there must be another program trying for access or maybe the registration server adds an entry into the Windows registry and that changed ?

SDCentral retrives all the games it just says It can not access the registration server. If SDCentral is attempting to access the registration server exactly the same way as it did in the past there should be no problem.

Of course I can get in by completely disabling Internet Security but in this day of hackers and Trojan horse virus.......:sniff!:

Still not able to get the new version of SDcentral to play nice. :sniff!:

Anybody ever email "Support @ Stardock . com" ?

Do they answer and how long does it usually take ?

I hoped I do not get a unhelpfull answer like the problem is not SDCentral it is your firewall. >:(

Stardock changed a perfectly fine working program SDCentral and now it no longer works.

Stardock central used to connect to the registration server something in the new version of SDCentral broke it.

Tech have you tried the following...

(assuming you have Norton Personal Firewall)

1. D.click firewall icon in sys tray

2. [Console should open up] On 'Status & Settings' click on 'Personal Firewall' - Two options appear - Turn Off & Configure. Click Configure.

3. [New window opens] On the top tabs click 'program control'

4. in the list check the settings for SD Central. It should be 'permit all'. If its not then click once on the name and choose 'permit all' from drop-down list.

Hopefully that should do it. I had the same problem and this sorted it out. If it doesnt let me know :)

Tried all that it did not work.:sniff!:

The good thing is I disabled the firewall,

Rebooted SDCentral,

SDCentral upgraded,

Did not allow SDCentral to reboot,

Turned back on the firewall,

Norton Internet Security asked me what it
should do with SDCentral.exe,

Gave SDCentral.exe full access,

SDCentral once again works !!

I use McA and everytine there is an update the program has to restart and be put back in to granting full access to the SDC Program.

Same with Norton Internet Security and give the program SDCentral full access worked everything, except for the version of SDCentral I picked up on the weekend.

The latest version of SDCentral which I picked up last night works fine.

I would recommend using another anti-virus program. AVG is a free anti-virus program and actually works better then nortons. AVG has absolutely no issues with games or any of the things that nortons has been known for. IMHO anyways. I keep it online at my website for this reason. :) Glad you got it worked out though.
