"Anyone find the ST:2 reference in the GalCiv user manual?"

Oh yeah, had me cracking up. I'm surprised the GalCiv credits don't have an entire "humour" department.

OK, I still don't get it. Was Ceti Alpha 5 a really crummy planet? Please forgive me trekkies/trekkers. I know I have sinned.

You have; it was. Ceti Alpha 5 is the planet Kirk marooned Khan on during the original series. It was a decent, if hard, planet at the time, but due to some solar-system voodoo (I forget the exact explanation) the planet was transformed into a horrendous desert planet. By the time the USS Reliant (with Chekov on board) finds Khan there at the start of Wrath of Khan, the planet is practically lifeless (the only living things are the handful of survivors of Khan's crew, and some nastly slug-like things).

Thank you Ash. I have seen the movie in fragments, but hadn't made the connection between Khan's planet and Ceti Alpha 5. Now before I anger any fans, I'll go and watch ST2 now. :D

"I thin it was a planet exploding or something"

Something happened to Ceti Alpha VI. Chekov thought he was on Ceti Alpha VI at the time, while Khan was marooned on Ceti Alpha V. Chekov mentioned that, which is what prompted the classic line, "This IS Ceti Alpha V!"

Chekov: "You lie! On Ceti Alpha V there was life!!"

Khan: "THIS IS CETI ALPHA V!!!!!!!!! Ceti Alpha VI exploded six months after we were left here. It shifted orbit of this planet, and everything was laid wasted..."

Nitpick #1: The planet in "Space Seed" was Alpha Ceti, but DeForest Kelley (McCoy) kept saying Ceti Alpha, so they changed it..

Nitpick #2: Khan sees Chekov and says "I never forget a face." Chekov wasn't in the series yet in "Space Seed."

GC nit pick. Technically Ceti Alpha V appears to be a bit better than modern Mars as stated in the manual(I did not see khan and Co. using respirators..so it must still have had breathable atmosphere).

dawg

PS I also like the starwars references abou the droids in the diplo screen info.

Wrath of Dog -- Read the book series about the Eugenics Wars (currently book one and two are available). Little did you realize that the Eugenics Wars have already begun!

In Iraq.

Nitpick 300: Why in the hell couldn't the crew of the Reliant COUNT PLANETS?
"Hmm, here's a planet...uh, let's call it Ceti Alpha VI."
"Sir? This is the fifth planet."
"Nonsense, I never forget a planet..."

nitpick 17.6.17.1-3

Why is it that (especially inenterprise and TN) that one can communicate directly with starfleet in real time but they can never talk to ship 2-3 parsecs away

Why does no-one ever have to take bodily function break?
(Whoo had chili last nite Spock??)

on star trek V (yeah it was a crappy film) why is the rear shuttle bay / shuttle pod look so small (it occupies half the back end of the ship in the external shot)

Why does Spock have green blood but pink skin?

Why is it you need universal translator for ship to ship communication; but face to face on planets surface is never a problem?

Its thr 23rd century; they have cured cancer; increased life and strenght but they havent cured male pattern baldness?

.. old jokes I know; but they still make me smile

I also cracked up at that reference in the planet guide, but of course then my geek side had to kick in and immediately notice that the line should be "THIS is Ceti Alpha 5!", not "This IS Ceti Alpha 5!".... ;)

Granted the whole line is shouted, but the emphasis is definitely on the first line.

:p
