As soon as I produce a ship, I name it with a kitten's name.

Sure, if Corvette 281 gets blown up, who cares, but when WIDDLE SNOOKUMZ takes one in the face, well, that's a real tug on the heartstrings!

hehe, nice idea, but you know what I mean. I want to feel a sense of loss when I loss a capital type ship. I guess that might come with Fleet play? In moo i always had more of an interest in the ships and what happened to them.

actually i agree mikec - i'd like to care aboyt my ships too. i think GalCiv2 is gonna address this with ship design = individual looking ships

I hope and am confident that ship design will not become such an integral part of the game that it slows down the quite brilliant "flow" which the current game design has somehow achieved.

Not that I'm thinking of any other particular modern 4X space conquest game specifically here or anything.

Do you know that you can rename your ships (and even opponent's ones?)

Its not about renaming. I never rename my ships in other like games really. I think the ship design will help, I also think that the Fleet concpt will too, because Im hoping you will need to have different kinds of ships. ALot of times in galciv I would just send my
ships on auto-attack, got pretty boring. In moo I at least had to make them into combined fleets. I really do enjoy making new ship classes and seeing how they fare in battle.

I wonder if this is a result of the civ type map instead of the star-lane type? Fleet commanders might help too.

Whenever it happens, I think back to my Star Control 2 days and say "damn, we just lost Williams and the Davis triplets!" That always adds the degree of oomph.

I've only ever had two ships, who wanted to do anything but not what I wanted. They never got shot up and I was sorry about that.

Please do not make me go through 50 clicks of ship construction just to get to the part I really care about.

Better yet, maybe ship construction can be an option?

Good thread! LOL All I care about is winning and grabbing as many planets I can along the way by spreading the Federation culture far and wide.

I do see the point though galciv 2 does seem to provide a lot more options via ship design. Now if you put some time into one of them and it gets blown up the cost and time lost may make you care that much more about each and everyone.

I have a hard time with my starships being named after kittens. All the other AI would laugh at you when snookums fires a hairball at the dregen.

Mike, I care deeply about the starting survey ship (USS Hero)most of the time. Other ships, cest la vie(sp?)

Yeah Alex thanks it was funny! LOL I own cats making it that much funnier. One of them I have considered shooting for target practice!

We had a cat that used to like going into the garbage can inside the house. We loaded a water pistol and at first it worked but then the cat realized it didn't hurt.

Then we loaded the water pistol with some hot sauce mixed in water (very diluted, I luved my cats). Guess what, that worked. It started associating the hot sauce with garbage and left the garbage alone.

Interesting.. Never heard of doing that only water. I do not think I could do that with my cat. You did not have much choice though.
