An old player says "Now wait a second..."

I stopped playing GalCiv due to a computer crash, and the old cover and serial number were long gone by then. Only now am I getting around to coming back. Due to the particular annoyances of the order screen, I couldn't order GalCiv and Altarian Prophecy at the same time. No problem, I figure, I'll order GalCiv now, refamiliarize myself with it, and order AltPro later. After all, it's still about a year until GalCiv 2 anyway, plenty of time.

So, while I'm waiting for GalCiv to arrive in my mailbox, I decide to surf some fan websites and online reviews of AltPro. And then I say "Now wait a second...."

Because if I'm reading this right, I have two choices; either to play the AltPro "campaign" story where I *have* to side with the Altarians and the two new races are my enemies, or I *have* to create my own "scenario".

So I can't just play the game with the two new races, and never mind some annoying storyline? Mind you, I wouldn't mind playing the campaign, but if I *have* to play the campaign or start meddling with the customization engine, then I may just settle for "classic" GalCiv until the sequel comes out.

Please tell me I'm wrong? :(

Ummm Arcalian, I think that where ever you got your information.... well let's just say that its wrong. You can play campaign whenever you want, and you can make/customize your own maps whenever you want. As far as I known (I may be wrong, so if anyone can correct me I'd be thankful) you can also play random games just like you can in galciv, so yes I think your wrong and I think where ever you got your information is wrong too. I hope this helps. :)

Hmmm... let see!

With AP you can :

1) Play randomly generated maps with 1-7 major alien races with the minors on or off.

2) Play AP campaign

3) Play the 9 scenarios included

4) Play on the various custom maps provided

5) Create your own maps, scenarios, and campaigns and play on those.

Right now the only games not submittable to the metaverse fall under category 5.

:)

PS AP also has bonus ships, etc.

That was what I was looking for. Thank you both. I was afraid option 1 no longer existed, and that the "normal" game was now option 2. You have assuaged those fears, and I will order Altarian Prophecy soon. Thank you.
