Aging problem Finally fixed - or so it appears.. time will tell

After Chatting to T-Man (Pat) on Irc the other night

I duno if this is good news or what.. but the metaverse has just got a lot fairer.. T-Man(Pat) has just modified the Aging script so that ALL players are now aged properly (in the coming days.. yes thats how long T-Man says that the script takes to run... that a lot of the inactive players scores will be dropping due to this bug fix).. At least now everyone will be treated the same Active players or inactive ones... Which has been a major gripe of mine now for many months...

Thanks T-Man for fixing this....

Still one more problem to fix is the splitting of the good, neutral, evil games.... at the moment its only picking up half the Good / evil games... eg: Chaotic or pure not both... Once this gets fixed then the metaverse will finally work as it was designed in the first place...

I'm hoping that T-Man will get some time to look into this soon... Rest assured that I'll be talking to him about this long standing problem

ok... ok... you can all thank t-man for the fix ... I was just the Stubborn messenger... who kewpt prodding here in the forums.. who finaly said enough.. and went to chat with him on IRC... Nicely of course... .. he is an extreamly busy man as are all the staff ar Stardock.. I'm just glad that he had the time to tweak the script while i waited ;)

I wasn't sure of how well it would be recieved so I didn't mention it till the changes became apparent ;)

Just goes to show you that if you are polite , persistant and not being a pest, just what one can get done...

I'm also pleased to see that what i was fearing hasn't happened.. ( ppl saying that its not fair... and whats happewned to their scores) It speaks volumes about the maturiry of the GalCiv community ;)

Thanks one and all

I suspect most of the people whose scores are degrading (I need to look closer, but I have not seen on yet) are not even around to complain, much less care.

Before the massive recacl, the Galactic guardians have more than 22 000 000 Mpts. Now, they are below 19 000 000 Mpts.

Looking at the Galactic map:
GG: 22 731 773 Mpts
At the time of the post :
GG: 19 819 825 Mpts

And some inactive top players have dropped in ranking.

Well what ever happened I am back on the first page sitting not so pretty in 24th spot. Its been four months since my last submission and I have dropped from 1,000,000 to 690,000. :( (:(

And I have risen from 23 before the recalc to 17.

The one I noticed was Greldon, he just took a huge hit. Still on page one though.

No complaints here. I moved up 2 spots.

And the recalc seems to be still underway: GG have now 18 934 802 Mpts. But maybe some Guardians have left :)

I would put money on it being a recalc ;)

Well, wasn't tgrz a Guardian? I find there are more non aligned player than earlier in the day.

On second though, he was perharps an Aldarian

No, I was an Aldarian. Decided to leave since I was the only active player in the empire.

:sniff!: We'll still be around if you decide to come back. BTW I'm going to start submitting again now that the metaverse seems to be fixed. ;)

And now 15. Looks like the recalc was needed to ensure fairness but it took some times.

Hey tgrz - you're good enough for the Romans - come and join me!

I am glad the recalc finally happened. For the metaverse to be fair and fun, it should treat all of us the same way. Thanks for fixing the bugs.

For some grasp of "metaverse inflation", I kept track of my progress over many months. I held 3rd place for the first time in the fall of 2003 with a score of 172,407 in 60 games (hardly believable now). IIRC correctly, Ray the Wanderer was in first and Free Tibet (only one of her names) was in second. I lost third place with a score of 483,482 at 85 games shortly after getting there. LOL

Now third place for second time requires almost 300 games with almost 2 million mps. And, Chiperoo may overtake me soon. Add that to Technician who has games and mps that were not imagined possible when the game came out plus Druid, and those with decayed scores and you have real "metaverse inflation". :D

I submited to the meta each month since June 2003 and find playing (or averaging) around one game daily (while playing other games too) keeps me from getting burned out on Gal Civ. I also turn the sound off and listen to really nice music because the sound is unimportant in Gal Civ (just ear candy). Not requiring sound to play well actually makes Gal Civ even more special.

Everyone have fun so we all keep playing and buying the new versions. Thanks to the forum community who have helps maintain interest in the great game(s). :)

:SURPRISED: Hey! I am now in 20th spot. At this rate I will overtake Technician in a couple weeks time :) :D LOL :HOT:

:sniff!: GOT TO PLAY MORE !!!! :)
LOL at least now you get rewarded for playing as opposed to not playing ;)

this fix has definatly sparked more life into the metaverse... the forums are busier than they have been in a long time and players seem to have a purpose for playing again

I assume it also means some of the retired players can play again without it having a negative effect. :notsure:
yes... well not as big a negative effect as they would have had if the bug hadn't been fixed ... the aging appears to be correct now as if they had plated a 0 score game when the last recalc was done... without registering a zero score of course

they should see their scores progress the same as anyone else who is in similar situations... I'm an active player and I still loose say 60.000- 100,000 / month in aging .. so depending on their prevous acrivity and their current acrivity .. the huge neghatives have already been applied
