Forget Arceans, Get Mad at the Torians

A lot of people seem to be upset with the Arceans. At least they put up a decent fight though. In every game I've played so far the Torians have been nothing but green-gilled surrender monkeys. Since they never surrender to me, it cheeses me off. :) Was the Torian AI was inspired by that guy who sings the pot-smoking song?

Was gonna fight a war...but then I got high
Build a battleship or four...but then I got high
Now the Drengin own my systems and I know why
Because I got high, because I got high, because I got high

Come to think of it, they are kind of glassy-eyed in the picture...

LOL :)

I'm the most upset with the Altarians in my current game. Soon we'll both be left in the galaxy although I'm desperately trying to fund the Arceans to put up a fight too.

I extorted the Drengins to the maximum yesterday. Man that was fun :) They came crying for peace and I gave it to them for a huge starbase, a star system, nano-electronics and 100 for 50 months. Boy were they desperate. The only have one starsystem left, surrounded by my ships.

You're right about the Torians, they were gone very early in the game, though I've also played a game where they totally beat me to death.

If anything, one of the things I love about the game is that I can't predict what 4 out of the 5 major races will do from game to game.

The Drengin are the reliable ones. They tend to be nasty in every game I play, unless I'm shooting to be evil. Even then, the best relation they've been towards me is Friendly. Once, with only the Torian left (and I was evil), I showered them with techs and cash each turn, but they never got to Close with me.

The Yor have more often than not been neutral rather than evil in my games, which always surprises me. Out of all the races in the games I've played, they are the only major race who has never tried extorting money from me.

The Arceans swing wildly from game to game, and even in the space of one game, which I suppose befits their neutral nature. I've had them threatening me one turn, then begging for help 10 turns later.

The Torians have probably been the most "good" of the races I've experienced. It's been rare when they hate me, and when they do (especially when my alignment is at least neutral), I have to chuckle.

The Altarians are consistent in one area, I'll give them that...whatever position they choose against me, they choose it to the death. When they've allied with me, they are there to the very last man. My most bitter battles thus far have also been fought against them. Their actions towards me have almost been 50/50 in my experience.

And this is without even having to change their alignments in the game setup!

I hate the Torians! I have only played 2 games (playing 2nd) but in the first game they were reduced to 2 planets in one sector and they would not surrender. I wiped them out immediately in my 2nd game, because they started with me again. I often find myself muttering "Torian Bastards.." :)

The Altarians seem for me to be the most reliable goody two-shoes. Then again I am only on my second game.
:p

Cheers!

In my current game the Alterians and me are the most powerfull races, however the Arceans come up quickly :)

The Drengins, Yor, and especially the Torians don't do snot hehe.
All races set on normal difficulty :P
(I got about the most planets, together with the Alterians)

They arent the best race, but,
(this may be a slight spoiler so dont read the next part if havent played with the Tors set to evil.)

If you set them evil they talk about eating your skin, and that automaticly makes them pretty cool in my book.
I cracked up when I first saw them say that. It has to be my fav diplomatic line from the game.
(End of spoiler)

In my games they tie with the Yor for 2nd worst. Guess who is first.

In one game that I played, it was practically a galaxy wide war with the Dregin, Altairan, Torian and Yor fighting the Arcean. No, I didn't change the alignment and the setting was on normal. The Torians and the Altairans were getting beat up pretty badly and I was helping these two out by supplying advanced ships. I couldn't fight since the Arceans were out of range. So I set up shop to crank out battleships and sent them to the two races.

Since this is a thread about the Torians, I can say that they weren't surrender happy but the Yors were into paying tributes to the Arceans.

The only thing surprising to me about the Torians is that they're an actual viable race and player in the game. A far cry from what I saw in the older version of GalCiv. Nice job, Brad!
