Still Trying to Use MP3 Player

I still can't get this to work. What am I doing wrong????

I used Windows Media Player to export a playlist to C:\.

In the GalCiv options I put that path (C:\) into the Custom Playlist settings or whatever, and it found my list. I selected it and loaded it. Now I have no music, but at the bottom of the screen I see the names of the songs in the playlist madly scrolling, but nothing is playing. What is up with this? Where is the documentation for how to use this? Though I think this game is great, there are some aspects of it, including things that should've been caught in the long, open beta, (Trade Good NON-Monopolies anyone?) that are really starting to wear my patience, with lack of documentation being one of them.

Sounds like it isn't finding the songs. Only time I've seen an mp3 player madly scroll through the list like that.

Try putting one of the songs into the C: and see if it picks it up... maybe.

I had exactly the same thing happen; in the end I just copied the MP3's into the Galciv playlist directory and point the game at it and it uses a default playlist. Works fine !

Forget it. I'm not going to move my files all over the freakin' place to get it to work. Either it works correctly or it doesn't, and it seems that it doesn't.

Use Notepad to edit your playlist. Winamp is real good at putting relative paths in there. If each song does not begin with "C:\" then chances are Galciv will not find it. Put the full path to each song in the playlist. Or, in winamp, save the playlist directly to the Galciv folder. I think that will force it to put the full paths on the songs. I don't think saving it in C:\ does this, as winamp decides it can still use a relative path to get to the songs.

Move your .m3u playslist file into the "Playlist" directory under Galciv. Works great for me.

Yeah, but then I have to type the whole freakin' path to that directory, as I don't believe GalCiv supports being able to browse for the directory you wish. It's just a nuisance.

Well, I did it anyway (put the whole path into the options menu) and get the same results. It's obviously reading the file because the song titles are scrolling across the screen. How do I contact Stardock support to find out why this isn't working?

Forget about it. This forum seems to be interpreting the tags in my M3U text file and doing something with it so that I can't paste it here.

Jeff, what worked for me was to use Winamp to save a playlist to the Playlist subdirectory within the Galactic Civilizations directory. If the playlist ends up in the Playlist subdirectory you won't have to specify the full path, just the name of the playlist. Also, make sure the songs are MP3s (WMAs or other formats won't work) and are 160Kbps or below. If that doesn't work, e-mail the playlist to me at [email protected] and I'll compare it to mine.
