Sales figures?

Does anyone know how well GC is selling? I'm not looking for detailed sales figures -- I'm just curious as to whether it is selling as well as was expected. I would think from the reviews and ratings it should be doing very well so far.

Better than expected, from what I understand.

I know technically it's none of our bleeping business, but I'd love to know too. I'd love to stack it against MoO3.

It's doing really well. But it'll never outsell MOO 3 any more than My Big Fat Greek Wedding could do more business than Star Wars Episode II.

Distribution is really the key. Let me give you an example, MOO 3 started out with 12,000 units in store on day 1 in a certain large chain. GalCiv started out with 1,600 in the same chain.

Reorders are based on a percentage of how fast the original copies sold. So let's say we started out with 4 per store of chain X. And we sold out in day 1. So they would reorder 5 units. And then go to 6 and so on.

Which means that we lose out on a lot of sales as a result. It's the nature of the game industry (or movie industry, music industry, etc.).

The really telling statistic has been Amazon.com because on there, all games are on an equal footing since there is no stocking level issue. We peaked at 3rd, right now it's 6th. We started out at like 400th since we had pretty much no pre-orders. So overall things have gone really well. Much better than expected.

I got mine from www.compuexpert.com. $30 on sale. One of the best game purchases I think I've ever made.

I guess I am one of the few who pre-ordered it on Amazon :)

Best 4X game I have played since.... mmmm.... Reach for the Stars on Apple II ;)

I had preordered it from Amazon, but when it was available from Drengin.net while Amazon was still saying that it wasn't available yet (they usually ship preorders a few days before the street date so that it arrives on or about the street date), I decided that the extra money for a Drengin.net subscription would probably be worth it, especially for the Political Machine.

I bought it from EB. I wasn't really hopeful, since the day before someone posted to the newsgroup that no store he could find in Portland had GalCiv, but there it was. :)

I got my copy from EB, since they were the first to get it in my town.

Congratulations on the success, Brad. I hope it makes y'all enough to buy yourselves a Ferrari. Or maybe an Avatar.
