Alliances

How does one form an alliance? I see other races allied with each other, but I don't see how I can do the same. I've researched Alliances, but that didnt seem to change anything.

Suck up with them :)
Give them free ships or so, some cash, etc.

Maybe there will be a 'propose alliance' option 2 in the near future :)

Same problem here.

I've been "Friendly" with the Torians and the Altarians for many years now and have the Torians under my thumb since they are economically dependant on me by a whopping 80%. I've given them ships, tech and support in all their wars. The Terran Empire alignment is neutral (54) and superior to them in nearly all aspects. I have Alliances researched and I gave it to them both. The Torians and Altarians allied though... but not me. I feel so left out.

Are Alliances require a likewise alignment? That's the only thing I can think of preventing one.

I've formed alliances, but it seems to me that the civilization you're trying to form an alliance with must have *close* relations with you. Apparently friendly isn't good enough. Once you've gotten relations to close, and both you and the civilization you wish to ally yourself with have researched alliances (or obtained them through trade), the option to form an alliance will come up. Hope this helps. :)

One more thing... be wary of becoming allies with the minor civilizations. It seems to be bugged to me in that, once I've got an alliance created with a minor civilization, I can't break the alliance. I could possibly break it through war, but using the button to break the alliance in the Minor Races tab of the Foreign Policy screen has not worked for me yet. :p

Once upon a time I was 'close' to the Altarian republic, gave them Alliance technology, and I still couldn`t choose to ally myself with them. :notsure:

I have not been the best of friends os some but it looks like the key is to make a trade rout with them.

Does the computer really play the same game as the player? In a recent game, a minor civilization popped up--I attacked them and the Altarians declared war on me for attacking their ally. How did they ally do quickly?
