Problems with getting GalCiv to run on my cpus.

I am sure this has been addressed before:

Does this game work with a 700MHZ AMD processer?

I have tried to load this game onto both of my computers at home and neither works! One is a 700MHz AMD with a 16MB Diamond Stealth Vid Card. The other is a 600MHz pentium III with a 8MB Nvida TNT card. Both are linked via router to the internet. On both of them the game installs fine but when I try to run it just closes the window and quits. I have the latest drivers and DirectX 9.0 installed for everything so that can't be the problem.

What gives? Will I ever get to play this cool looking game? Do I need a new motherboard/vid card to play???

Heh, actually yes. I'm running an original AMD Athlon 700 Processor. About 4 years old now? Geforce 3 card in Windows XP. Game runs great.

Must be my video cards then....I guess I will pick up a new one after work today to check out that theory. :notsure:

The only other thing it could be is that my AMD is running windows 98 and my 600MHZ P3 is running Windows ME. Are those operating systems trouble? I kind of doubt that could be the case though.

I went from Win98 to 2000 Professional. I've heard nothing but bad things about WinME.

For the first 2-3 years of my current computer's life, I was using a 3DFX Voodoo5 card. It got the point I couldn't run anything and it was crashing quite often. The GeForce 3 card I bought single handly extended my machines life by 1 year. GalCiv extended by another as I don't want to play any other games and it run pretty well on my aging system ;p

Also, check your soundcard. Make sure it's using the latest drivers. I don't remember which soundcard's outdated drivers had problems crashing the game, was it Soundblaster?

Install DirectX 9.0a if you only have 9.0

If you still have problems, e-mail me your debug.err file from your galciv directory.

Thanks for all the help! I got it to run on my P3 ME by updating the sound blaster drivers. I am still baffled why it wont run on my "gaming" cpu which is my 700 MHz AMD.....my wife will just have to switch with me for a while.

I will keep toying around to see if I can find a configuration that makes it work on that cpu.
