Too many events?

Anyone think random events happen too frequently? Personally, I love 'em, I think they add a lot of personality to the game. But when they are too common, that personality turns into 'ho-hum, make the same choice again'. My opinion is that 4-5 events per game would be a good target, or however are enough to turn good or evil if you wish, plus a couple, so that they are few enough to keep them fresh and truly 'game changing'.
Also once an event occurs it shouldn't happen again in the same game. I had the 'super-soldier serum that halves their lifespan' event three times in my last game, it just ruined the 'immersion' for me. Anyone agree, or is it just me?

I think the *frequency* is okay, the problem is more in that you end up getting the same one multiple times per game. While it's very handy getting the strange plague that can be turned into yummy juice that gives you a hefty BC bonus, it's a bit unrealistic that that happens twice in 4 months. :notsure:

Inserting a whole heap of new events would probably help alleviate this. :)

I agree that events should happen only once per game... and that a whole heap of new ones should be added! More of everything! :CONGRAT:

Well that's two for no duplicates anyway. :) Don't you think that if dup's were eliminated but the frequency remains the same we'd see almost all the events in just a few games? They happen awfully frequently and adding more is a treadmill you can't off of. I'd love to have more added, don't get me wrong, but if they keep popping up like mad even the 'new' ones will get old pretty quickly.

They need to add a new load of very *generic* events with little consequence other than altering the morality of your culture.. like passing laws in your own senate or something.

For example:

Protestors take to the streets demanding more political freedom! What do you do oh leader of the republic?

1. Grant my people the freedom they want. (Good, +3 moral)

2. Pacify them but take no real action. (Neutral, +1 morale)

3. Protestors?! What?! Send in the tear gas and shock troops! (Evil, +1 moral)

Playing on larger universes means longer games, so if events weren't allowed to re-occur it could get rather dull... Don't change the frequency, just add more events. I've done event scripting for other games, is there an FAQ for GalCiv modding?

I like the minor event idea!

The minor event thing is a great idea and I'm with you guys about adding more events in general, that would be cool too. But doesn't anybody think that cool *rare* events are better for gameplay then cool *common* ones? When every game, or every third or fourth game, has the same events they start to get less cool and more boring. And no matter how many you add, you'll see them all pretty quickly if they pop up at the pace they do now. Anybody play DiabloII? How fun would that be(have been?) if every monster dropped Rares and Uniques?
I wouldn't find this game dull if there were *no* events--there's too much strategy--but they are a very cool addition. The whole game is trying for an *epic* feel and I wish the events added to that feeling instead of just being routine. I guess it's just me though. :(
