Captain Jack Sparrow Captain Jack Sparrow

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

Cringe in fear do gooders. The G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimy alienS) empire is now formed. In less than an hour we have jumped 95 other Pacifist Doo Gooder victim empires and lept into 40th out of 135 ranked.

We are an evil empire bent on controlling everything and showing all the other empires out there who's boss. US. Are you listening Euro-"Oh lets let everyone be a senator and give em a vote doo gooder democracy alliance?" We come for you.

For a limited time, (untill I decide otherwise) 5 Pure Evil games, (or just impressing me with your game evilness) submitted will get you a Senatorship. Later, being the evil empire pyramid scheme we are, it will take 10. Of course, being the evil empire we are, that gives you no benefits, no pay, but all the alien carnage you crave most.

Now we do realize that sometimes, you just have to fake being good. You sometimes just have to infiltrate that pacifist party. We understand. But we aren't a kinder gentler empire and don't let their pacifism go to your head. And just sometimes, you gotta let the Aliens live (where else would you find slaves for the heavy metal lava mines?)

In the future, we shall update each other in the empire via this thread, brag of our conquests, drink blood wine, and generally just poke fun (creatively and humorously) at those players whom we find to be too goody goodyish.

Our mottos.

G.R.O.S.S. Where being good is merely a temporary strategy.

Just win baby.

Here's your ration of skin you do gooder wimp Drengin slime. Now get back to work

EBZeroMatrix you have been made a senator.

I repeat. Cringe in fear, we come for you.

Greetings, oh great leader PBP... a much more typist-friendly nick, I must admit.

Oh, and greetings to the rest of my fellow G.R.O.S.S.ers serving their time on the Survey Ship of Doom.

Today, as I wrapped up yet another eeeeevil victory, I reminisced about the "old" days when G.R.O.S.S. was but a young, budding empire - a passing thought in the vacuum that is the Metaverse. I even went so far as to read the beginnings of the great Threadzilla (recommended reading for you newer crew members of the greatest pirate ship on the galactic seas). Perhaps it was the apparent wit of our leader - or maybe I was just drunk with GalCiv-induced fatigue - but I noticed that I hearkened to the call and joined back on 5/7... two months ago today.

It would be fitting then, that on this day, I submit my 20th victory for the mighty G.R.O.S.S. empire - adding what will no doubt be the final medal to my collection. I'd hoped it would push me into the top 50, frankly - but I'll be there tomorrow, I've no doubt.

Ah well, enough self-back-patting... I just had to relive those glory days... back before the Survey Ship of Doom began to cruise the spacelanes...
looking for Drengin to fry...
Torians to stew...
Arceans to grill...
Altairians to toast...
and Yor to...
to...
make the toasters from.

Ah, the good old days indeed. :)

sixtoes!

Just two months and yer already sayin' it was "the good ol' days"?!?! You need some serious ribbin' from the gang. ;)

Hark! Look out beyond the horizon! (kinda like sayin' "Listen! Do you smell something?" LOL - Ghostbusters quote) Look out beyond a year. Beyond two! After a few software expansions, Metaverse wars, scandals, and a whole bunch of looting, what will the Survey Ship Doom be like then? Just imagine! Do you have goose bumps yet? Then walk the plank!

Just posted my first pure evil game. Had a question - for the first time my metaverse score was less than my in-game score. Usually, my metaverse score is much higher, sometimes as much as 3 times higher. But typically, my metaverse score is a least twice my in-game score.

Is this due to a factor of time? I played it out a little longer so the game lasted long enough for me to get the 'Pure Evil' rating.

Also, I got to Avatars for the first time, but there was need need to use them. How many additional ship types are there? I'm considering playing a gigantic game just to get further in the tech tree (this is the 2nd time I've seen dreadnoughts in 13 games).

Happy Raiding,

Cypher

Cypher: No need to change your natural allignment just for us. After all, Gunner has the blue smily face. He's just as deadly as always. re: Score. I play Gigantic merely because it allows me to explore the whole game (tech tree and avatars and stuff) without milking. My games only last long enough for me to build 1 or 2 overlords even on Gigantic.
And I've noticed there are things that affect the game score without affecting the metaverse score. Other things do not affect the game score but do affect the metaverse score. So I doubt the fact that your game score is lower than your metaverse score or higher means much. I see you played two different sizes your last two games. I see your metaverse score was higher than the last game and that's what counts... The metaverse score. In my experience, the metaverse score is usually about 2000 or so lower on my gigantic games so maybe the bigger the size, the more mscore is lower than gscore. Also, the higher my metaverse score was, the bigger the discrepency between the two was also. Other's results may differ.

Pontius shuffles all the pirates into the holodeck for a holo plank walking. A new ceremonial plank is put in.

"COMEON SIX YOU CAN DO IT JUMP UP AND GRAB THAT RING. (POKES SIX WITH THE CUTLASS) I got this gag from those old Star Trek Videos we smuggle into the Empire space.

No one has ever done this cept Gerakkin says Staffa. He'll never do it. He's going into the drink.

Nonetheless six jumps, grabs the ring and lands correcting his balance, on the plank intact.

Ha!!! he says. Did it... I get to come in. you all owe me a sixpack!!!!

Gerakkin: "computer, remove plank. HEHE, I watched that episode too boss."

Splash!!!!!!!!

Pontius shoves the rest of the gang in and Leaps in himself. Congrats on #20!!!! Bridge, Beam some of the booze into the holodeck. Drinks are on me!!!!

Sorry, but I'm literally shaking with anger after reading plephart's response to that V guy. Everything they say about good values and honor in the MWC. THAT'S hipocracy! Don't get me wrong, I know there are great people in the MWC, but the posts I read drive into my soul like a rusty ol' broken saber. Why do they cast shame onto the notion of good virtues? I can play as the bad guy until the real bad guys show up. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Gotta get my mind off it.

Holy burning effigies of Barny!

How did I get to be #5 for average score? The math around here... wait a minute... THERE IS NO MATH!!! It's all random, isn't it? Now it all makes sense. I am one with the Meta. Oooooom... Oooooom... repeat after me... Oooooom... Oooooom... there is no math... Oooooom... Oooooom...

Chill out Kit. Were my statistics enough to get you so riled up. I posted my disclaimer to any statements by that clown Vasueden and yet you still associate me with him. Shaking with anger...did I call names....never have, although I have been called numerous degrading things by your own leader Pontius, while I must say Gerakken has never been anything but civil in his dealings with others. Have I ever exploded due to being called names by Pontius, not to my recollection, after all this is just a game. We at the MWC are all about honor and values but why should that prevent me from simply including some statistics in a thread that it clearly related to. And I'm sorry but pirates talking of good virues, as I have said before the only good virtued and nice pirates I have ever seen perform on Broadway, and that is not you from what I've seen and read....maybe the ANZACs but certainly not you.

Before anyone else jumps in, it is true that I should chill out. I took a few steps towards making this personal and I should address that right now. Please don't jump on plephart here. I'm going to post a level-headed response on the MWC thread. Level-headed... level-headed... level-headed... gotta keep saying that to myself.

Cypher - I've had the same problem. I see players draw a small map game out to over 10,000 points, but don't understand how they get such a big score. Like you, I found my small map scores at Beginner averaging just over 4k, then normal just over 5k - last couple of challenging getting 5.5-just over 6k with no connection between gscore and mscore (gscore usually much higher). I'd love to make climbing the difficulty scale worth the effort!

Kit: beaming over a slab of Fosters for you - this is known to induce level-headedness in Australians.....

And Plephart: BROADWAY PERFORMERS!!! I'LL GIVE YOU BROADWAY PERFORMERS YOU MIDWESTERN FARMER!!!!JUST YOU WAIT!! YOUR CARDS ARE MARKED!! [storms out muttering obscentities...]

I get mine over 10k because I turn off all vic. conditions. And then I get as many planets as possible, research all tech, and get as many trade goods and wonders as possible. That's pretty much it.

Simple. No baggage. Us older version players have a fair deal of inertia to overcome to get good average scores. And it takes a lot of thrust when a record like mine is littered with scores from below a hundred all the way up to over 8000. This is typical of a lot of old version players. Low, low scores coexisting with what seems to us as stratospheric scores. So anyone coming in at v1.05 and later is going to immediately do well on the averages. The only cure for the old version scorer is to submit enough games to cancel out the low ball scores. So it looks like I need to stop letting real life get in the way and submit some more games to address this little deficit. :)

You're still clinging to your real life? You really ought to let it go, Gerakken. LOL

I always thought the programmers compensated for the early scores. For instance, a score of 59 with v1.021 would get multiplied by 100 before it's added in with v1.05. In fact, I thought all scores from previous versions were adjusted for ALL of the rankings. Hmph... if that's not the case, how do you "old timers" even hang in there? ;p ;)

EBZ: What does turning off ALL the conditions do for you, though? Like you, I mostly go for military wins, as I figure they're worth more than any other sort. I certainly turn off cultural victory, as the computer often ends the game much earlier than I want it to. Even if you turn off mil vic, you still 'win' when you invade the last planet, right? On a typical game with you on a small map, what final pop would you have (roughly)? How far up the tech tree do you get before you finally pull the pin and invade that last planet?
KitWarrior: For average the only thing protecting old players with those early low scores is that only players with more than 10 submissions are included in the average score list.

Meanwhile, on the overall score list, a score can not drag down any scores more than a month separated from it.

I don't. I laugh at em and their hypocrisy.

Kit that's what the troll wants. I tick the troll off because I merely laugh at and expose his hypocrisy and idiocy.

Cypher, the further you get along in tech and stuff, the more points. That's why I don't play small maps. I want to explore what the game has to offer mid and late game, but still win when I can without delaying my win any.

Chill out Kit. Were my statistics enough to get you so riled up. I posted my disclaimer to any statements by that clown Vasueden and yet you still associate me with him.

Trolls of a feather get associated together. But Pajama boy knew that. And he knew he was trolling. Otherwise he wouldn't have posted the disclaimer to try and disassociate himself.

Now lets all play.

Although I probably shouldn't have responded to the troll in the first place. All it does is put his lame threads on the front page again. Lets feed Threadzilla instead.

We're in first place. We are climbing in points. Lets play and leave plephart the troll and his little friend behind.

True wisdom... guess that's why he's the powerless emperor. Or the pirate captain. Or something like that.

{dries self off after clever plank trick by Gerakken and Boss-man}

Ah. Thanks for the drinks, boss. After today, I needed 'em. Oh, and #21 finally put me in the top 50 - now if I can ever crack that front page... :)

So it looks like I need to stop letting real life get in the way and submit some more games to address this little deficit.

You too, Gerakken? If only I could convince my boss - the one that provides a paycheck, as opposed to Boss-Pontius who only provides free beer (not that I'm whining, mind you) - that the galaxy needs saving more than he needs me this week. Hehe...

Obviously I had something to get off my chest, but that's done now. Every once in a while I have to relieve some of the pressure in my bottle of rage. Just enough pressure and it's Evil Overlord Kit wading through the killing sectors. >:( Not enough and it's Happy Bunny Kit hopping through the sectors of lovey-doveyness. ;p Y'all can probably imagine now what it's like when there's too much pressure. :SURPRISED:

Now lets all play.

Yes, back to GalCiv. :D Currently I'm torn between midsize games and larger ones. The midsize ones are simply fun. I totally empathize with EBZ now. And yet I always want more after I submit it. The larger ones have the added fun of making me competitive in the Metaverse, but I get bogged down. My puter doesn't perform well and I like to micromanage. I use Mr. Ford and autopilot, but I can't help getting' in there and tweaking things just a tad. What to do... what to do...
Heh, thanks Kit. Well in my current game, its a norma/gigantic galaxy. Maybe this will appease those whiners ;) . Plus I needed a change as well. Still the smaller maps are so much more fun though.
