G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

Cringe in fear do gooders. The G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimy alienS) empire is now formed. In less than an hour we have jumped 95 other Pacifist Doo Gooder victim empires and lept into 40th out of 135 ranked.

We are an evil empire bent on controlling everything and showing all the other empires out there who's boss. US. Are you listening Euro-"Oh lets let everyone be a senator and give em a vote doo gooder democracy alliance?" We come for you.

For a limited time, (untill I decide otherwise) 5 Pure Evil games, (or just impressing me with your game evilness) submitted will get you a Senatorship. Later, being the evil empire pyramid scheme we are, it will take 10. Of course, being the evil empire we are, that gives you no benefits, no pay, but all the alien carnage you crave most.

Now we do realize that sometimes, you just have to fake being good. You sometimes just have to infiltrate that pacifist party. We understand. But we aren't a kinder gentler empire and don't let their pacifism go to your head. And just sometimes, you gotta let the Aliens live (where else would you find slaves for the heavy metal lava mines?)

In the future, we shall update each other in the empire via this thread, brag of our conquests, drink blood wine, and generally just poke fun (creatively and humorously) at those players whom we find to be too goody goodyish.

Our mottos.

G.R.O.S.S. Where being good is merely a temporary strategy.

Just win baby.

Here's your ration of skin you do gooder wimp Drengin slime. Now get back to work

EBZeroMatrix you have been made a senator.

I repeat. Cringe in fear, we come for you.

Thanks for the info.. I think that most of the time (according to your comments.. that I give up too quickly.. because I don't see that i'm getting anywhere except for going backwards).

I to tell people how i play all the time..
but I've been playing increasing hardness to get the full experience.. i'm cuttently playing a large tough. (4 AI's on Bright and one on inteligent) scattered abundant. at the moment i seem to be holding my own. i took universilists + moral, speed, range and diplomicy. My old bribes of 1 infgluence pioint seems not to be working anymore.. I've colonized all the planets i could beat the AI's to 14 or above.. currently i have 2 starbases 16 planets spending on full tax at 48% tech at 50% soc at 34% and mil at 16% at te moment but i change them regularly depending on what i think i need (first Tough game that i've played thats showed any promise).

My strategy.
Big quick planet grab as many as i can get above pq14 (only colonize 1 in each system till you've been everywhere then go and colonise the empty planets in your system)

start of 8% research 8% society full spending and tax rate up till your lowest planets moral is 50%(or just above)

when you have started spreading out switch your inner most planets from colony ships to constructors. When you gave all the planets you can colonized switch to spending as high as you can without decreasing your balance. then set research so that your researching a tech every month (the basic techs that is) decrease your military slider down to the lowest point possible while still being able to produce constructors on ALL your planets. the balance goes to society. then build starbases defence (to withstand shark attacks) and cultral.. I generaly try to get all the minable resources too.. then when your as high in culture as you can go and defence then i go to work on mining. (then if you time and excess constructors build up the military starting off with repair bays.

While all this is going on I have my survey ship on auto search.

you'll find that you'll generaly find enough ships to protect your starbases without having to build any.

When you have discovered all the planets I choose 2 planets 1 mine one someone elses (doesn't matter who) then i build freighters on that planet till and keep them producing till i have 10. always sending them off as soon as they are built.

If the furthest planet is a major AI then they will (have for me) become quite friendly with you.

Tech swapping: only ever swap for money once your getting 100bc / tech (you tend to get more swapping techs individually) then start increasing the no. of months

up untill this level of play i've been able to bribe them with 1 influence point but on tough it doesn't seem to work :(

I stay out of war as long as i can and get out of them as soon as i can.

My game is setup for military victory (all options for victory conditions turned off). However I almost never have to fight. I culture bomb the AI's .. the planet i'm trading with Last of course then when the last major AI planet flips.. I have a didtant planet setup with 1 or 2 starbases in the same sector which I then gift to them. and then once again I look for the planet thats furthest away and start building 10 freighters again to trade. (2 starbases in their sector built up with culture modules should be enough to stop their last planet from flipping. however if it dies flip again.. just keep giving it back to them.

I don't end the game untill I have all the techs (good and evil) I start of going for the evil techs and stay evil till i have built everything evil.. then on randomevents i chhose good untill i reach saintly and end up with all of the good techs. I also build at least 1 of every ship (including terror stars) and have all the trade items and wonders built. By this stage over half of my planets are up at full population.

Then and only then do i go in for the last planet generally by moving in terror stars into the sector till they flip.

i've noticed that the culture evects from starbases deminish the further out you get.. so if your trying to flip planets.. then build your starbase in the same sector as their planets.

I've also noticed lately that the minable resources are generally in systems with un-inhabitable planets (whish I then upgrade when possible to terror stars and place them along the trade route in systems where i have planets. (I usualy end up with about 16 of them) once the terror stars or starbases are on a trade route I build up their economic modules

Things to remember .. always have your individual planets moral >=50% the higher the quicker your population grows.. I find rthat keeping it set so that the lowest planet at 50% is slow growth.. but the people are still happy.. the higher your popincreases by the quicker your moral drops.. 50% is fairly a stable % to be set at (most planets endup at 100% with ess than half below 60%) this also ensures that you win your elections (unless your unlucky and all your planets are at 50%) I myself havn't lost an election yet using this method

sheesh.. that took quite a bit of time to type in.
The method i've listed above seems to work on all map/cluster/abundancy settings up to and including normal playing (possibly higher.. still testing) If i follow my method to the end.. I always end up with about 15k-16k scores for a normal game on a large map.

I've posted this in the GROSS thread only because this is where tactics are being talked about at this time.. I've posted similar (smaller) versions of my stratagy around the place where ever at that time they are talking about tactics

Sorry for such a long msg in your thread GROSS

Hope it helps out.
average game takes 2-3 days to play
(it should its tried and tested..)

If anyone has any comments to add please feel free to do so.. any suggestions for improvements then please let me know

We are the one and only empire that has consistantly posted our strats right here for all to see. None of the others do.

I've always given help when i could.. unfortunatly I've not been succfull.. and resent you guys stating the above.. Ray and I are 2 that arn't in your empire and we help as well. I do admit that GROSS and POSS do help out a lot more than other empires do. and forgive my assumption that I was included in this comment.. I to tend to take generalised comments too personally.. for that i appologise

Keep up the Good work GROSS and POSS you guys help is always appreciated

thats why the ANZAC Republic does so well too i think that everyone out there underestimates our will power.. :) and we always come from behind .. not tryuing to be sneaky though.. as you've seen in my posts warning empires of the battle they are going to loose

Now lets get to this Anzac Republic thing. Anzac is a military organization. Militaries are dictatorships not republics. Changed your entire identity just to placate Cybil. Tsk Tsk.

Just an additional point, once I have got to battleship and can start to build comb transports and dreadnoughts.. I research tech to get to excalibur first bypassing dreadnoughts, rangers, avatars and ovelords. With the diplomacy increasing all teh time a civ wil normally trade some of these.. Another think is try and have about 100bc in espionage in the best economy civ.. Can pick up a lot of their techs.

Ignore the other military, but build up through research (brown) and the yellow and green techs.. you will need the puple planetry destruction in order to get to controlled wormholes I think.

If you get to excalibur first along with the alpha strikes ( or better still just have some comb transports around and let the other civs do all the hard work).

Once you have about 6 excaliburs the gane is won and you can attack and make peace getting the remaining techs.

Hope this helps

What did you think of my stratagy...

It's pretty sound for the level you're at. I'd get the survey ship off auto survey now though. You'll lose it to a space shark if you don't.

But don't build culture bomb starbases in the same sector as the aliens planets. On higher levels they demand you turn them over to them. If you don't it's war. I try to find a class 13-14 planet in an adjacent sector, and set my culture bombs there.

Killa Koala and PBP, thank you for the tips. I have never played maso so appreciate the help at any level LOL. I don't know whether this huge score increase with maso and the nerf on sub-maso will be good for the metaverse or not. If the bump/nerf is perceived as too extreme, there seems to be a risk of alienating non-maso players but of course this was discussed before and here we are. Thanks for helping others move up his/her game because, to me, maso sounds insurmountable. Oh yeah, I have posted all my tips in the open too to try to keep the forum and metaverse active but rarely is one interested in the opinion of a player at my level. LOL. OK, I won't contaminate threadzilla with that little gold ring any more. Bye. :)

Rick

PS Hi EBZ if you check this thread anymore.

Ok this MWCer is now officially in debt to Koala and Pontius :P

Following a mishmash of your maso guides for the beginning then taking off and running with it, I'm actually doing very well in maso. Torians and one minor down, and the Altarians (most powerful AI) have left all their planets undefended!! They shall soon feel my wrath :D

I think Wild Wombat or TheQuack . . . :d

BlueSteel: just a few comments on your strategy from my perspective.

start of 8% research 8% society full spending and tax rate up till your lowest planets moral is 50%(or just above)
End of quote

Don't know what you mean with 8% research 8% society?

If you raise taxes to lower morale to 50% at the start that lowers your growth dramatically. The longer you keep morale at 100% the better for early growth which is important in the colony rush stage.

I don't touch PQ14 planets until much later in game. They soak up too much money to develop, which lowers your economy. Colonise them later when your economy is up and running.

When you gave all the planets you can colonized switch to spending as high as you can without decreasing your balance.
End of quote

Um, if I read you right, you don't spend at 100% at the start? It pays to spend 100% and then lower spending to a balanced budget as the game progresses.

then when your as high in culture as you can go and defence then i go to work on mining.
End of quote

I suggest the reverse. Build mining/productivity modules FIRST (unless you are having problems with culture). The greater the mining, the quicker your planets can build constructors, ships, social improvements, wonders. This is the edge you need to boost your productivity ahead of the aliens. Also, don't underestimate the trade bonus modules: more money = more production. Build Fusion Plant and manufacturing plant (for production) and of course the $ earning improvements ASAP.

up untill this level of play i've been able to bribe them with 1 influence point but on tough it doesn't seem to work
End of quote

If it is not working, it is because your diplomacy is too low, and maybe your military strength is too low.

I think you are not building freighters early enough. They are the first ship I tend to build after the colony rush. Even better, is to trade techs for freighters. Often I have bought a freighter which is NEXT to the alien civs home world. In one turn I set up a new instant trade route. Don't send freighters too far at the start! The longer they take, the more money you may get, BUT you won't earn any income for a long while. It's a balancing act. I think you get more $ for setting up trade routes with wealthy distant planets, not just distant ones.

Tech swapping: only ever swap for money once your getting 100bc / tech
End of quote

Try different amounts. You will find that you get MORE $ from lower monthly amounts: ie $100 for 10 months, or $50 for 30 months. The longer timeframe can give you economic stability too.

i've noticed that the culture evects from starbases deminish the further out you get.. so if your trying to flip planets.. then build your starbase in the same sector as their planets.
End of quote

Doesn't work at higher levels. They will declare war.

I've always given help when i could.. unfortunatly I've not been succfull.. and resent you guys stating the above.. Ray and I are 2 that arn't in your empire and we help as well.

kryofx: triple your score of your previous tiny map!

BlueSteel: another thing solely for a higher score, build up your military at the end. The anti-missiles (or whatever they are called) send your military rating high very quickly.
And I just beat an abundant planet small map! It did mean more preparation for my alpha strikes though. One system had 3 planets, and needed about 10-12 combat transports. I'm p*ssed off that I was rated only chaotic evil though: I am SURE I was totally evil. Does the game ever make mistakes with morality ratings?

I lose my nerve on crippling large maps, so I couldn't handle maso large maps.

Pontius: thanks for your tips. Will FB cobble the diplomacy ratings at set-up I wonder? Cotal suggested this. I must admit that a diplomacy rating of 80% at set-up does wonders for keeping out of wars and tech trading, BUT, it is still a challenge to beat maso. I certainly hope they don't cobble it.
Why the 8% on society production and research at the start means that you are researching and improving your planets from the word go.. It adds 1 turn to the colony ships but it also gives you the edge in tech and soc prod. rather than having them at 0 .. the speed and range boonuses give you the extra edge and makes up for the 1 turn loss.

Yes raising your taxes slows your growth.. however it makes for a more stable and quicker kickstart. I honestly don't worry about population until i have as many colonies that i can get. then later in the game when I have trade and tributes comming in I can lower the tax rate for a massive accross the board population increase of up to 2bill people / planet.. If I don't spread out ignoreing the decreasing starting pop's on the planets then I would get less of a population increase.

In V1.10 there are a lot of space sharks out there .. thats why I build defence modules first. also planets convert / flip over more easily in the early stages of the game as the AI's arn't all that quick to cover their planets from culture bombing. By this stage i've colonized all the colonies i can.. so I've lowered military spending to about 25% and social prod has been increased to about the same (25%).. My spending is aleays @100% unless I am loosing lots of money / month out of the treasury.. I hate not having money there to build moral of a fliped planet to 50% or above..

After I wrote the last message that influence trick started working :) All of them eventually got to be close to me which ithen turned into allies (as soon as i had the tech) then everything is just number crunching till you want to end the game :)

what i've found with tech swapping is that it works out about the same amount overall recieced its up to the individual as to which way they go.. I looks at it this way.. there are 5 AI's and also generaly at least 2-3 minors so thats 700 / month comming in while the trade exists.. when it runs out I usually have another tech to trade.. after a while when i can get their duration of repayments up to 50 months then i start increasing the money from 100 / month.. (BTW don't forget to also top up with influence points after setting your cash/duration to the max that you can.. its valuable when it comes to UP meetings.. and costs you nothing to get (think of influence points as cents and the BC payment as Dollars.. Up them both BC first then influence points so that your getting everything you can for your trades)) I think that you get more points for techs you research yourself than if you trade for the tech/tech thats why I don't trade for tech only cash

Point taken about building starbases in the AI planet sector.. bringas up a question.. in higher levels if your allied to the AI do they still attach starbases in their planets sector ?

Hope this helps you understand why I do things the way I do.. (until now its been very stable)

anyway i'd better get back to my game so that i can re-try a maso game using verous strats that i've read...

Thanks Killer and Pontius for your comments

They will say hand it over or the alliance is broken. Then the next turn they will say hand it over or we're going to war. At least that happened to me. They are very sensitive to culture bombs in a sector where they have planets. Yet they are oblivious when you put one just one sector away. HEHE.

I don't know. It may be intentional and not a mistake. Perhaps there's some sort of averaging going on and it doesn't just take your end rating as we think. But several times, I've ended clearly as neutral and it's come out chaotic good even though I was below 50 in my morality.

Cheers everyone. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I know I did. Cya all tomorrow.

Hey folks, Great News!

Mrs. Pax and I have another little pirate on the way! This release is due between early and late June...

Guess we don't need to use the transmortifiger-thing-a-majimgee on Mrs. Pax after all. ;)

Most of my family doesn't know yet, but I wanted to make sure Killa didn't accuse me of holding back good story material again.

Yeah!
