Captain Jack Sparrow Captain Jack Sparrow

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

Cringe in fear do gooders. The G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimy alienS) empire is now formed. In less than an hour we have jumped 95 other Pacifist Doo Gooder victim empires and lept into 40th out of 135 ranked.

We are an evil empire bent on controlling everything and showing all the other empires out there who's boss. US. Are you listening Euro-"Oh lets let everyone be a senator and give em a vote doo gooder democracy alliance?" We come for you.

For a limited time, (untill I decide otherwise) 5 Pure Evil games, (or just impressing me with your game evilness) submitted will get you a Senatorship. Later, being the evil empire pyramid scheme we are, it will take 10. Of course, being the evil empire we are, that gives you no benefits, no pay, but all the alien carnage you crave most.

Now we do realize that sometimes, you just have to fake being good. You sometimes just have to infiltrate that pacifist party. We understand. But we aren't a kinder gentler empire and don't let their pacifism go to your head. And just sometimes, you gotta let the Aliens live (where else would you find slaves for the heavy metal lava mines?)

In the future, we shall update each other in the empire via this thread, brag of our conquests, drink blood wine, and generally just poke fun (creatively and humorously) at those players whom we find to be too goody goodyish.

Our mottos.

G.R.O.S.S. Where being good is merely a temporary strategy.

Just win baby.

Here's your ration of skin you do gooder wimp Drengin slime. Now get back to work

EBZeroMatrix you have been made a senator.

I repeat. Cringe in fear, we come for you.

All that song reminds me of is playing Doom in my younger days... ah, strafing with the best of them when one missed step in that circular dance of death meant a double shotgun blast in the ribs...

I'm not cultured enough to know the other song (:( LOL

to the tune of Clementine

Doom to Torians,
Doom to Drengins,
Doom to all the alien scum.
They are a disgrace to the galaxy,
Oh, alien scum.

(et cetera.)

and now, a very prestigious piece,
music by SIR ARTHUR SULLIVAN
Lyrics by SIR WILLIAM GILBERT

With Cat-Like Tread

PIRATES: (very loud)
With cat-like tread,
Upon our prey we steal;
In silence dread,
Our cautious way we feel.
No sound at all!
We never speak a word;
A fly's foot-fall
Would be distinctly heard--
POLICE:
(softly) Tarantara, tarantara!
PIRATES:
So stealthily the pirate creeps,
While all the household soundly sleeps.
Come, friends, who plough the sea,
Truce to navigation;
Take another station;
Let's vary piracee
With a little burglaree!
Come, friends, who plough the sea,
Truce to navigation;
Take another station;
Let's vary piracee
With a little burglaree!
SAMUEL:
Here's your crowbar and your centrebit,
Your life-preserver -- you may want to hit!
Your silent matches, your dark lantern seize,
Take your file and your skeletonic keys.
POLICE:
Tarantara!
PIRATES:
With cat-like tread
POLICE:
Tarantara!
PIRATES:
In silence dread,
ALL (fortissimo).
With cat-like tread,
Upon our prey we steal;
In silence dread,
Our cautious way we feel.
No sound at all!
We never speak a word;
A fly's foot-fall
Would be distinctly heard--
Come, friends, who plough the sea,
Truce to navigation;
Take another station;

Let's vary piracee
With a little burglaree!
With cat-like tread,
Upon our prey we steal;
In silence dread,
Our cautious way we feel.

Hey Pontius, how are you surviving a Huge Masochistic? I can barely survive the Tiny's, thanks to being able to slip in to the end of an invasion...

The horror!! of all the days for bad stuff to happen.
Well yesterday i had a stystem wide overload running Diablo II, LOD. That wasnt fun at all.. soooo sloooww

But I got all my web files and some other stuff from school to post since im blocked there and the server for it is screwed up and all my stuff is down..
there goes my evening.. perhaps now i can get a game in so all is not lost.....

If anyone needs me ill be in the ship rec room. Making mods to my sword and stuff and chowing on some 'space pizza' while watching old earth moves.
Plan 9 from outer space! what a hoot!

Thelon, I noticed masochistic became a lot easier once I focused on trade routes with the majors. With the improved relations added to the wars I would buy them into, they would stay off my back. In fact, I try to keep them from ever declaring war on me until I have an alpha strike in place. Culture bombing could also work.

All is not lost? For piracy's sake, all is gained!

The 1ip bug is no more. But you can still offer them things like 10 bc's, 1ip on occasion, a tech here and there. I've also noticed just trading tech (rather than giving it away) can improve relations.

I generally culture bomb (still a military win when you turn off the other victory conditions) as it's quicker than a military free for all. I save my military playing for tiny and small maps.

Two reasons for this
1. It takes tons more time to fight a war
2. It takes tons more computing power (that my machine doesn't have) when all the ships are flying all over the place.

When I play Gigantic, I have to time alpha strikes with the express purpose of taking ships off the board so my machine can continue to run the game.

LMAO I love that song Lavalamp. You should join us....

This one, however, needs some work.

to the tune of Clementine

Doom to Torians,
Doom to Drengins,
Die Altarians Die you scum.
You are all a disgrace to Humanity,
You will die painfully alien scum.

Once I dated a she Altarian
But she wasn't alot of fun
Turned her into bbq ribs and such
She died painfully that alien scum.

Came apon a crippled Drengin
Freightor loaded with alien scum
11 herbs and spices later
Kentucky fried Drengin Yum Yum Yum.

Once a Torian made the mistake of
giving a whack right to my bum.
Got my Cutlass made some Sushi
out of that slimy Alien Scum.

Trade with the majors early can really help. On huges, you get less money by focusing on those close to you in trade. But it's well worth it. Once your planets get developed, it's less critical to cash flow but it helps relations with those close so much. The civs on the other side of the map take 50 turns to even mount a token force that can get across the map to you if then.

I usually go with speed+1 Populists, diplo+whatever I can on Huges.

On the tinys and small I go with Populists, Diplo to the max then whatever else suits my fancy (econ+1) etc.

Oh I usually set the aliens to all evil. I find it easier to deal with them when they don't give a flip what I am rather than goody goodies who always end up trying to clense evil. Plus all evil aliens garner a bit more points.

Diplomacy is just too much a key to this game to ignore that bonus for me. And Populists give me a moral boost to boot.

Of the wonders and trade goods. I usually get Galactic exposition and all the other culture boosters except the one associated with the Government tech after democracy.

I try for diplo translators and grav accel early Usually get one of the two but not both. I never get aphrodisiac,

I usually get two of the 4 second wave moral boosting wonders and tradegoods.

I get all the tech ones using diplomacy to get out of war, then fill in my fleet

I get the terreformer about 2/3 of the time. I buy the tech and it if necessary.

I hardly ever get the capitals first (except the tech one)

Oh and your starting position is the key to the game.
Alot of people look for class 20 planets and a starting sector with good planets in it. I've found neither are necessary on Huge.

All you need is a decent size cluster that you are alone in on huge. Your starting sector or pq doesn't affect things as much. You can see where the aliens start by clicking on sectors and checking influence. If it's zero, they are at least 2 sectors away from that square. If you share a cluster with an alien on Huge, it gets dicey early (you are wayyyyy too vulnerable to influence early) I actually find smalls and tinies a bit harder than huges myself simply because you must deal with the influence problem earlier whereas if you can find your own cluster on huge (easy to do within 1 or 2 control-n's) it isn't ever a problem.

I'll post a complete walkthrough if you need it.
