I haven't come over from the SupCom community (I don't very much like said community), but am a fan of SupCom FA.

I still play SCFA but I defiantly enjoy playing this more cause the AI is more competent than SCFA or C&C3 for that matter.

I play both as well as c&c, but I'm playing this one more often because it is newer and I have always wanted a good space RTS.

Meeeeeee.
I haven't really been playing SCFA since the performance difference between vanilla and FA really shows on my PC. That said I've really fallen behind on well, everything, and don't have much of a desire to catch up. The competition is really fierce now and kind of sucks the fun right out of the game.

I love SupCom: Forged Alliance. I was getting a little bored with vanilla SupCom, then FA released and I've been playing ever since.

Different genre entirely, but both Sins and SC:FA hold my attention.

I am in a supcom community but i don't play online too often. To many pros, no real noobs(like me). To many rude assholes and much to many teamkillers(haha-funny!!). So mostly i used GPG to upload Mods for my friends :D

Good man!
For some reason you remind me of the MST3K spirit... I just can't put my finger on why...

I did yes. SupCom:FA was really my kind of game but it needed some developer loving. Three months for a patch to come out and basically it contained about what a modder could do in 30 minutes or so. And the bug fixes were bugged.

GPG essentially declared they had no interest in improving things, particularly the completely broken AI/single player side of things. Which is a crying shame. They seemed to believe the only possible way you'd play SupCom:FA was the lame rush-o-matic ranked multiplayer stuff.

Meanwhile I come here, devs talk, patches are seriously meaningful and the modding community is thriving. It's refreshing.

That said, SupCom:FA is a much bigger game than Sins really. I put most of the community interest in Sins modding down to the fact that it's pretty easy. No working through reams of lua stuff and undocumented engine features... But the question remains whether Sins will be interesting in three months time. Only if there's some seriously new stuff I expect.

I found most of the GPG forum to be crass, down-talking assholes. The only forum I look at anymore is the mod forum. That' actually the only reason I bought FA, was to mod it. All the other forums are just a bunch of teenie purse fight bitch fests, calling each other n00bs and fags. The majority seem to be elitist (understatement) that rail anybody that asks a seemingly innocuous question. It's sad really. I've always liked our friend Wankey here though. I've always appreciated that he just tells it like it is. Usually, at the expense of people ripping into him, because that's apparently what you do when someone's opinion counters yours, you call them a stupid n00b fag.

I'm 36 years old, if I wanted that kind of conversation, I'd visit the local jr high.

As for the devs, they've switched focus to their new game (Demigods) coming out later this year. So SC/SC:FA support will be waning.

I've never played a game of SC/FA online, no intention to. Given the "discussions" of matches in the forums, I have no desire to see that first hand. In fact, I've not played ANY game online, except for racing games with friends.

You win, you're a cheating fag. If you lose, you're a gay n00b. There's apparently no such thing as "decent game", "I had fun". You have to berate them, win or lose.

Fuck that.

Yep, I hear you. There are proper folks there, they're just drowned out by the kiddy asshats sadly. I also get trepidation when it comes to multiplayer.

That said I think you're being a little overly negative there old chap. For a start one of the best aspects of multiplayer is co-op stuff with your friends. That was the stuff that was pretty badly broken in SupCom:FA sadly. It's better now, with Sorian and Duncane's stuff, you should give it a go with some pals. It's good fun.

Sins is pretty wicked like that too. You can actually save a game in progress and come back to it the next night. Just as well given how long games take :-)

I hear ya on that one. Just a 5 player FFA match against the AI took me about 5 hours.

Your Wankey! hey

you might remember me. minus a "y"

Hear yeh! I have this theory that the über-math competition in SupCom failed to make it a game and made it a assignment for many players, which is why I think they should completly remove the mass/energy storage limit. Im maybe going back for SupCom 2, if anything better doesn´t show up, or the next expansion, if it hasnt/will not be scrapped. :)

Oh, and hey Wankey, ^.^ ...

I made a mod for myself with nearly endless T3-resource storages :D. Also a shield-mod because i love turtleing(What got more and more difficult with the upcoming patches, and impossible with FA...:-( ) Retrospective i played only my own mods the last few months. I fear i have to modify the next expansion even more to fit to my wishes as they take out all interesting tactics(The new air transports are a joke...)

I made a Cybran T4 transport (same as the T2, but 4x the size, with a personal shield and it can haul 15 T3 bots).

I made a couple new T4 units and made them publicly available. Some people grabbed them.

GPG is a much older crowd, and yes, there are alot of good players there, and clans. Sup Com/FA and Sins are the next generation of gameing, and the developers of these games have some major issues to fix, this will take time with both games. GPG did'nt advertize and is lacking in sales, and steep system specs. BTW, playing games that need math, and make you think, can make you smarter. I like, and think both of these games are worth the attention of gamers. As for public chat rooms, need I remind you that they are the rudest, crudest, obnoxious places to visit on the planet. If you take offense to being called a NOOB, then chat rooms are'nt a place for you. Gee, wonder what my name-clan is in GPG.

That's why I never go to public chat rooms either. It has nothing to do with having thick skin. It's just that I choose not to. Why should I voluntarily join a bunch of teenagers more concerned with calling you a noob faggot than actually trying to play a decent game? I feel sorry for these kids when they grow up. If I behaved even half as bad as some of them I've seen when I was their age, my ass would have been beat relentlessly.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't consider GPG's forum member's "older". Egosoft's "age" threads put their average member at about 29-30. I think GPG is somewhere around 20-22 and it's very evident in the content of most of the posts.

That's the reason I only went into the mod forums. The other forums made me nauseous on a daily basis.

I once went onto a public server in Forza2 on XBL, within 2 minutes I left. It was fucking ridiculous. That said, the XBL/Forza forums are the pinnacle of shit. Which is why I haven't been there in 6 months.

Incidentally, aren't they supposed to be working on another add-on pack right now?

I sincerely hope this time they actually try and make any new side more unique. Each side had it's unique units for sure, but there was just too much similarity between them, it was almost like TA all over again.

I play both. Right now I like Sins more.
I play both too. With the recent patch for FA i'm leaning towards sins :P
