Should you launch auto attack ships??

I have often seen vast rows of corvettes and other alien fleets that run almost in a line one behind the other. Where the first one attacks, then the second, etc.etc. Should I launch ships and have them "auto attack" (as I think they move to the closest target) or hold them in reserve, build a fleet then auto them?

As a defense idea, maybe we could get some mine tech? That way we could place fields of them and either slow down or halt some enemy advances. (maybe even reduce some enemy ship numbers)

Auto-attack is a bit borked currently, in that if a ship's current target vanishes, you have to nudge it to get it going again, which is a minor PITA. It can be useful just giving a few ships the AA order and letting them run around cleaning up drones and minis.

You mean like an anti-matter missle, only with 1Att/100Def?... could be fun.

Get 10 constructors and drop a starbase with max defense in front of the enemy fleet. Attach a repair module if their numbers aren't too great. This works better than a mine because enemies will be attracted to the starbase ;)
