More Patch/Install problems

Alright, I tried to uninstall and reinstall to get the patch to work. Now when I try to reinstall, it's still giving me the invalid ex_ size error. Is there anything I can do? At this point, I can even play the non-patched version because I uninstalled trying to fix it!

I'm having the same problem, as is the only other person lurking around on IRC this hour. I tried downloading the retail installer and doing a clean install, but it's still givng me the error on galciv.ex_. Is it possible the server files are corrupt?

Same problem. Error patching GalCiv. Haven't tried anything drastic as I haven't archived GalCiv yet. Will do so now, actually.

After a few failed experiments, I followed this recommendation from the FAQ. Despite being a PITA AND deleting all my saves, it did in fact work for me:

"To repeat: Reinstall GalCiv from the CD and then reinstall SDCentral. It is the SDCentral setup program that does the detecting of what version of GalCiv is already installed and prepares it to not have to download as much."

I grabbed the galciv.ex_ file (I made a copy after it downloaded and before it was self-deleted when file was found to be bad). Winzip cannot open this file, so it looks like the file is corrupted. I opened the file in a hex editor and this wonderful little bit showed up at the top:

The requested URL /public/gc1/production/Base/galciv.ex_ was not found on this server.

It looks like an error file and a bunch of other crap was interpreted as binary data and sent instead of the correct file. We'll just have to wait for them to fix it. :notsure:

That would explain things. Hopefully, it didn't touch my real copy of GalCiv yet.

It shouldn't have hurt your installation. The files are downloaded one by one (each file is compressed individually). Next the files are uncompressed in the SDC temp area "C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\temp\Base". The files appear to be copied over after this step. With galciv.exe not uncompressing, the installation routine is killed at that point.

As an update, the downloader is now giving me an error about an incorrect size for the galciv.ex_ file. So, it looks like someone is messing with the server right now.

Yep, switching to Atlanta worked great for me too. Thanks Zadoc, I totally forgot that there were two servers. :CONGRAT:

I also have the problem where SDCentral wants to download the whole 80M game instead of the patch. The instructions below explain what to do except for one thing. I have downloaded the bonus pack as a separate file. Can I install the bonus pack from this file after reinstalling SDCentral or will that cause problems?
