Unique Ship CRASH TO DESKTOP!

At both a science station and military base, when I ask for the unique ship they created, the game crashes back to desktop (no error msg shown).

I know, I posted a thread about it in the game support forum:
Forum thread

I have tried to fix the crash by patching the executable file with a hex editor and with help of a powerful debugger. You can download the fix here, although I can not guarantee that it will work:
Patch for Crash bug

That said, it seemed to work fine for me, so why not give it a shot?

Let me know if it works for you.

Great Work!

Your exe seems to fix the problem. (starship is WAY to spendy, but it's nice to not crash when I ask about it)

I encountered this crash last night as well, was like gahh!, but I guess it was a sign considering it was almost approaching 6AM lol :)

Anyhow, this exe certainly fixed that error, as I can click on it without crashing. However, considering the HUGH requirements (800,000 Credits, Ace Rank, 500 Dominator Kills) I don't think anyone will be buying it anytime soon to see if it was truly fixed, but at least its clickable, excellent work! :)

Yes, that is the problem with testing it. I myself have not reached the requirements either, so I haven't been able to test that part yet. But if no one has reached the requirements, it doesn't matter whether it works. And if they do, and it doesn't work, they can provide me with their savegame so that I can make it work.

By the way, have you also tried out my new fixed executable that fixes the goods searching in addition to this crash bug? I made a post about it shortly before you made your reply. You can download it here:
Mediafire download link
Edit: Replaced download link. The previous one did not include a fix for goods on space stations, only for those on planets.

Hmm, I'll have to check that out, curious though, what was the fix in the goods section to begin with? Honestly, I don't really trade that much, but I've used the Goods Search before your fix, a couple of times, and didn't notice a problem.. (As this character has been mostly questing and fighting)

Just let me know, so I know what to look for all..

The filters for Selling Price, Purchase Price and Minimum Amount, were broken for Alcohol, minerals, Luxury goods, and Equipment.

If you never used the filters for those goods, you would never notice.

Hmm, ok, tried it out, now get a crash to desktop no matter what option I choose in the search screen with the filters on for Max, Selling, and purchase Price... However, if I leave the option blank, then everything of course pops up.

I would attach my save game, but I don't see an attachment button here, so not sure if you wanna PM me your e-mail address or something so I can send you the file if you wish to look at it.

I used the download link from this thread btw.. (The 2nd download link you posted of course)

There was a crashing build up for some time, before I managed to fix the crash. Can you try redownloading it this link? That way I can be sure that it is not the broken exe.

Ahh that may have been it, redownloaded witht he link you just provided, and it works on the planets now the search and all..

Now just gotta keep on working on that requirement for the ships, 760,000 CRedits and 467 Dominators to go! lol.. (completed the 20 tasks already) .. Got a good chunk just a few moments where i pretty much liberated a system by myself, missles for the win! :) lol ..

Remember that there are three types of unique ships, each with their own requirement. The military one requires you to kill 50 pirates instead of 500 dominators, and the pirate one requires you to kill 100 civilian ships.

Ya, knew that, honestly thats easy part whether its kill dominators, pirates, or civilians, the thing that will take the longest time is making 800,000 credits, highest I've peaked was like 70,000 I think, and I honestly cannot just spend any of it, as there's still good equipement and upgrades to be had hehe :)

Nah, the 800.000 credits are easy compared to the kills, since government missions will give about 120.000 credits in the endgame.

Also, I have managed to make an improved fix for the search bug. The numbers in the results window are now going from 1 to 8 as they should. It is, all in all, a better fix. You can download it here:

Ya I'm starting to notice that, granted not that much, but the planatery battles are starting to give me 50,000 rewards, and I'm getting 30,000 by doing it on the hardest difficult the courier missions. Quite funny, as I seem to never get bored of those courier missions either, as the Dialogue is just so funny... Come on I know people had to have a laugh when they read the quest about the virus known as "Windows" lol :)

In the end, the hardest, eventhough, it doesn't seem like much, may be the Pirates, cause when you hurt one, your faction with that group goes down, which I don't understand, considering their pirates! :) lol, but ohh well, realized that the hard way, when I went regliously hunting after them, then notice my relations plummet all over the place, and took awhile to get it back up ! (Or maybe it was because I would accept the money to let them go, then shoot them down anyway!, lol, but i think its just overall faction loss when you donwload a ship from that faction)

Once again, great work, downloaded your new link, I'll let you know if there's any problems..

Thanks for the info, gang. I've asked Cinemaware to ping the developers for us on this issue.

 :)

If you were just trying to test your fix,
couldn`t you use the " hugemoney " cheat to get enough money?

That`s Shift+Ctrl then type " hugemoney " at any equipment screen.

Thankx,
Prof.

 :CONGRAT:

PS there`s a long list of cheat codes.
google: space rangers

But money was not the problem. Getting 500 dominator/50 pirate/100 civilian kills was. Do you know a cheat that sets the kill counter? I don't. And I read the cheat list, including the new cheats that were added in the expansion, and there was no such cheat that I could find.

Ya, I wonder off to much in the game, i get to almost 200,000 then see a new nice ship, and gotta buy it ! lol.. I'm about total, 55 Dominators killed, and 17 pirates killed, so I still got a long ways to go.. Granted it looks like the Pirates thing may be a bit easier, but man I need to really confirm if going after Pirates lowers your rep with that faction their linked too.

I figured, since they were pirates, that it wouldn't matter, but maybe I think it does, cause way back when I got a hugh hit with rep almost all over the galaxy, I think maybe it was because I was taking their money to live, then killing them!, lol so that may have been it, but not sure..

Ya,

So another update, I'm around 450,000 Credits, 86 Dominators killed, and 17 Pirates killed, lol.. So ya the science one may not happen in this game, especially since the Coalition has made hugh pushes and pretty much have pushed dominators back to a little corner of the galaxy.

So I may just really try to go for the Military one, since I'm about 700 points from Ace Rank in the Military, and 50 Pirates seems a lot more doable then 500 Dominators, just gotta hope my reputation doesn't suffer to much, I'll have to moniter that closly as I play. Hopefully if all goes according to plan, I should be able to fully test it out by tonight , so we shall see! (Last Day of my vacation from work, hence why I've gotten a lot of playing time as of late) :) lol ..

I just successfully bought the unique military base ship, having made 50 pirate kills.
With 1000 size, 15 armor, and all slots open, it was a fine hull indeed. It also supposedly gives a bonus to droid repair rate.
So I'd say my fix works.

Awesome!, ya , believe it or not I actually found an interesting way to rack up some dominator kills. As in my last adventure I was able to locate Terron's home base.. And since I am still in no condition to fight him, I was able to evade and fight almost everyone else..

To make a long story short, I went from about 87 Dominators kills to a 110 ! lol.. so it is possible, but eventually it became to much especially when I ran out of missiles.. However, this totally helped me get closer to Ace rank as I'm now like 300 points away..

Great work Netriak! Did you use IDA Pro or something else?

Yes, I used IDA pro, the free version anyway. How did you guess?

The links seem to work for me. That is, the ones which I did not actively deactivate because they had some bug or so. (Notably the links in reply 8 and 4, the one in reply 12 still works, and the one in reply one does too.)
Be sure to download the complete fix from this link.
