SO about a month or two till a new computer and what would you suggest

Anyway, first here is a [tentative] list of parts I would get.

My budget was around $1000, and I went over by $32 (not including the screen, that will be a birthday gift lol)! So any suggestions as for what to change to it? The reason why I said a month or two in the topic is I will not have enough cash by Christmas, so I'm just asking for cash this year from my parents, which will give me enough money.

Also, any suggestons as to what games to get (Considering that that computer can play anything)? List of games I plan to get:

  • Supcom + expansion (via Impulse)
  • Dawn of war II
  • Empire: Total War
  • L4D

Note that I have every [Valve's] Source game, Sins of a Solar Empire, and Demigod already (I have more games than that lol but those I think would be the most suggested). Don't suggest Crysis, or anything else with Securom. I am against Securom and the pirating of games >_> .

Thanks for the help :D

EDIT: Oh yeah I would get FRAPS too unless somebody suggets a better, cheaper recording tool.

I hear you, Mumblefratz, but I tend to approach it from a different perspective -

If I am going to spend money to have someone else build my PC then I will pay slightly more to make sure that

1. The workmanship is decent

2. The support is there even after I make the purchase

If I were Thrawn and had scrimped and slaved to get my $1,000.00 I'd do the research and build my own rig, because when all the other Boutique shops are charging a 15%-20% premium it seems ultimately sketchy to me that iBuyPower and CyberPower (owned by cousins) sell at a loss.  They are cutting corners, and I'd rather not find out how.

With only a bit more cash in hand I'll pay the premium, if I am having someone like Maingear or Puget build it, because they will cable far better than I ever could, sustainably overclock, and be there for me when it breaks.

The frustration involved in being shipped broken components is actually preferable, for me, to the helplessness of being shipped a broken PC.  I like to tinker, otherwise I'd just stick with the 360...

I've only skimmed the previous posts, so this may not be news, but:

Forged Alliance is stand alone, not an expansion, so you don't need the original Supreme Commander. You'd miss out on the original campaign from that, but the campaign is not the attaction of SupCom: the multiplayer is. On the other hand, a combined pack might be cheaper than either individually anyway.

Edit: Regarding your question on the SupCom endings, the start of Forged Alliance mixes bits from all of them, so it doesn't really fit with any of them properly.

If you're forking out on a 4870, you should probably be spending more on your monitor, otherwise it's just a waste.

I would guess that 850W is excessive, since I've been using 450W to power a Q6600 / x1800XT for some time with no problems. Others will be better informed about this.

SC and FA are both together for $30 via Impulse (which is how I will buy them).

The monitor is linked up top, it's 1080p for $200. Not really all that bad. The next highest resolution is 1080i for what, $200 more?

That doesn't seem to make sense. 1080i is interlaced, which means its worse than 1080p, but why on Earth would you have an interlaced computer monitor? Anyway, what I'm getting at:

It is better to have a resolution that fits the size of a monitor than simply the largest resolution possible. 1900*1080 or 1900*1200 tends to be the standard resolution for 24", while 22" monitors usually have 1680*1050. It's not far out, so it'll probably still look good.

More importantly, there's much more to the quality of a monitor than just what resolution you can display. You will notice a world of difference between cheap, mid-range and expensive monitors at the same size. If you're spending so much on a fast graphics card and CPU, then I assume you want games to look good? Well I'd suggest you read around some recent monitor tests before you part with your cash.

Well take a look at the monitor then and tell me if you think it's any good. I'm asking for it for my Birthday (so unlike my computer, I'm not ordering it next week and have a bit to decide on one). and I'm willing to bet my parents wouldn't be too happy if I asked for anything over $200... And isn't 1080i the 2500 something by something resolution? I thought 1080i was higher res

And Sole what I was asking was it as simple as unplugging those fans and plugging in the new ones OR cut the wire from the old ones, trim the plastic on the wire and wrap the wire around something on the new fans... or something complicated and stupid like that.

So since Xmas is next week, I should be ordering the computer next week sometime. I guess I'll go with all the parts listed above besides the case (I'll use the one sole posted on the second page along with the replacement fans). GWAD I'M SO EXCITED!!!! Going from a 5200 and 512 RAM is a big leap lol...

I ORDERED IT WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Hopefully everything will go well and I'll be playing on it next week >:D

Thats awsome, I finaly got the two heatsinks yesterday, that I ordered for the server I am building. Its a copper heatsink, the bottom of the heatsink is a big plate of machined copper, this i like top quality for intel Xeon dual core.
