When you click on the 'i' button for ship information, it would be really cool if the end of the description field could say something like:

'This vessel bears the markings of the [PlanetName] shipyards.'

This way you could remember where a ship was built so you could beef up your shipyards there and upgrade the weapons/defense for that ship. Also, this info could be interesting/useful to see for enemy ships as well, and could be especially useful for other miscellaneous uses like where a freighter was built.

i dont send my freingters from the system they are build in i send them to my best then star the route that way i dont waste time on building freigters on my millitary production planets.

Hmmmmm. I'm not certain that the aliens would be broadcasting the locations of their most-used shipyards just so that they'd become targets...

I was also under the impression that shipyard bonuses are not retroactive when it comes to adding a facility to a world, while technology and resource bonuses appear to be.

I was told that all of them are retroactive, but I haven't confirmed it. Odd that this would be the case. :)

They are retroactive because they made a weird design decision. A ship object stores a pointer to its base planet and so it's current values are always determined by a formula that uses that base planet as the modifier of the ship's base values along with any global bonuses.

So, you get free upgrades, but you also automatically lose them as well if that planet gets destroyed or you cancel a project there.

This is also why bonuses weren't saved in previous versions. The ship didn't store the pointer reference properly and so they all became homeless upon a reload.

And now the information *is* stored, so therefore this should be a very quick & easy feature to add in.

As for what the AI wants, I don't really care. I watch them build their ships and I *see* which planet they came from and I can jot down the name of that planet and the name of the ship, (if it were that important to me). The information is not secret.

If the AI wanted to be so secretive then it wouldn't build all its ships displaying their names and the bright colors of its civ. It would be sneaky and build ships that look exactly like mine, heh.

Anyway, put it in Stardock! It will take no more than 5 minutes to code, I am sure. ;)

Weird. I'd argue that shipyard bonuses SHOULDN'T be retroactive, since the ships were already built. It's fewer bookkeeping bytes this way, I guess.

Man, where have you been? Don't you watch Star Trek? Ships are upgradeable by the crew! heheh

I mean really. Quantum Torpedo's were perfected on the Defiant!!! and most of the rest of the Federation didn't even know they had em and were shocked they did in the coup attempt episode.

Actually, I think that the ships are assigned a new planet as their home colony after the colony is destroyed/traded. If not in 1.03, then in 1.04's beta.
