Map Feedback Thread

Seeing as how there's been an influx of new maps with Beta 2, I think it's best to start talking about them.

Of course, at this time, griping about balance is a little early, however, there's some things we can talk about, even without several play sessions: The map shape and distribution of flags and other structures.

The map that inspired this is Prison:

I think this is a horrible map. I have some opinions to back that up as well: It has no seperate lanes, thus creating a very chaotic environment, and reducing the amount of tactical team manouvering that can occur.

It would work better, in my eyes, by keeping the basic layout, but scaling it up massively. This will make sure that you cannot "switch lanes", the relative lanes being top/middle/bottom - as per flags, in an instant. Having more space will also reduce the amount of clutter and sheer chaos, making for a more wave-like gameplay, due to larger distance between army spawning portals.

Opinions?

I like Prison the way it is--I'm pretty sure that it's supposed to be chaotic.

It's a little too chaotic in my eyes. The semitransparent ground doesn't help either - it obscures everything even more.

I love it :D

It's really different. Plus, the wide open gives many more possibilites with Generals.

Squee.

I love the map personally because it is so "chaotic".  The short distance and open terrain keeps you on your toes and leaves no room for error.  This is the point of the map IMHO.  The whole point of varied maps is vary the gameplay.  Not all of them will favor your style.  That is a good thing.

I like prison the way it is now as well... especially that face staring up :D

I think Prison is supposed to be like that.  Every other map is full of lanes, walls, and barriers.  Prison is just a big open space to brawl.  I think this was their intention and they did it very well.  Its a "different" map, so not everyone will like it.  Personally, I think they did an excellent job for what they intended.

There are three maps, play a different one.  I like variety.

prison is my favorite map but what i did find is my minimap was messed up on the map thats suggested for 5v5 and I think 4v4. It showed my units were the water is.

Yes, to agree with everyone else, I believe that the map is supposed to be a change from the others. It's closer, tighter, and more fast and furious than the others. Personally, I have a much harder time achieving victory on this map than against the same opponents on Leviathan.

After all, the other maps have the things your looking for, so use them.

That said, the thing that annoys me about Prison is that the ground is pink and the monster is stupid looking. =/

I do like how his eyes follow your camera, though.

I totally did not notice that.

Haha, I didn't notice the monster below the floor either...

But I agree with the others.  Prison is suppose to be a chaotic skirmish map, a relief from the tighter, cleaner maps.

My point is, Prison is varietyless chaos. It plays the same, everytime. Make it bigger and it'll still be chaotic, but there'll be more ways of chaos.

I actually like Prison the way it is. The small, chaotic feel is refreshing every now and then after playing the big maps many times.

I like the idea of Prison, if only because it caters to those that DON'T want to play teams and want a 1v1 brawl. It could be argued that it isn't the point of the game, however when you've got very few people in a match and you don't want any AI interfering, I think open maps like Prison are useful. They also offer a little variety in that it's extremely claustrophobic given the small space. The small size and low flag count encourages early Demigod combat, which I like.

There's got to be a wide variety of maps to keep everyone happy. I found 2v2 prison was nice and tight, with kills being particularly important when one quick push could end it.

What we need to see is more maps with clearly defined lanes. DotA's success was that each lane was a distinct place, with continuous wars. I'm still looking forward to seeing the next maps to be released, and hoping for some more of the big ones.
