Extreme Unplayable Slowness

So, I preordered, I just got into beta 2.  I played two games.  The game is so slow it is completely unplayable.  Units do not visible move, they dissappear and reppear in another place, etc.

I play huge supcom games with maxxed group with no problem.  I turned all the settings to lowest resolution and saw no difference.  I was playing internet, but just me and one computer.  My graphics card is not the best, not sure what it is, but my cpu is dual core pentium 3 GB ram, etc... as i said, i can play supcom with no problems ever with quite a crowd.  any explanations for why this would be?

thanks!

I think a DXDiag would be helpful at this point.

Need some system info.

Not sure what additional info, but here i go.

windows xp, sp3

pentium dual core 3.0 GHz

2 GB RAM

not sure how to check my video card.  it came with the computer, which was bought from dell.  nothing special.  i wonder if this is the problem.. but as i've said.. i play supcom a lot, and not on the lowest graphics settings, and i've never had problems.  is this game more demanding than supcom?

internet connection is very good, never had a problem with any games.

your graphics card (Radeon X600) is over five years old, and doesn't support shader model 3. There were a lot of people in beta 1 having issues with non-shader model 3 cards, there's a good chance that could be your problem.

okay.  is there a recommended card (not super expensive preferably)?  i tried playing on lowest graphics levels and it did not noticeably help, but i know the graphics card is the weak point of my system in general.

happy, how much money are you willing to spend for great performance?  That is the real question.  You can get a good card for $150 or so.  Heck, it just has to support shader 3, etc.

Anything better than an ATI X1600 or a Geforce 6800.

Here's a good one for $30.

You'll need to find out if you have PCI Express or AGP though (you probably have PCI Express whichi s good).

Well he said he can play supcom with max group no problem.  Why should he need a new videocard?  Unless he is lying and an ati x600 can't play supcom well.

Or does demigod now requires higher system requriements than supcom.  Not the lower sys req originally thought demigod suppose to have because of the smaller maps.

Maybe the OP should wait until they get the shader 2.0 support into demigod and then he can play fine?

I have a Win xp, 3.2ghz p4 with AGP

Any that would run this game smooth?
End of krk3433's quote

Most likely you won't be able to run it well.  I have not heard from anyone with a single core that can run this game well yet.

I have a similar system, P4 with AGP x1650, and it doesn't run smoothly.

thanks again to all for helpful posts.  I think I'd be looking at the $200 or less for graphics cards... $100 or less if that would do the job nicely, but if there's a $150 card thats eight times better than the 100 I'd go with that.

how do i find out PCI or AGP?  also (stupid questions coming).. do i have/need one graphics card or two if i am dual core?  and do they have to be the same or not?  if i can have two, will they add, or only use whichever is better?

finally, as someone who is reasonably smart, but not a computer expert.. installing this on my deasktop would be pretty simple and avisable for me to do on my own, rigth?

yeah, reblitz64's comments... i am surprised that this game is more intense than supcom.  now, i usually play supcom on a lower end graphics setting, although not on the very lowest.  i can run it on the very highest and its faster than the demigod beta was on all lowest.  so i know the graphics was a problem, but i was surprised that demigod would be so much more intense.

although the waterfalls, etc... i just wasnt sure.

THANKS!

demigod has a lot lower demands for CPU and RAM but a bit higher for the graphical stuff (not sure if that is the case with all turned down to minimum).

happy, you said you had a Dell system.  Post your Service Tag number and I will check its specs.  I need to know what type of slots you have...AGP, PCI Express, etc.

Why get an 8400 when you can get a 9400 for the same price?

Because you get what you pay for...I would suggest he get an 8800 GTX, but can he afford it?  Perhaps.  Is it worth it?  Oh yeah.  The performance of the 9400 versus the 8400 is negligable.

hey. i got a new video card and the problem is solved!  thanks for all the help - great community!

If your system can only support AGP slot cards, then this should be your best budget option.

This card should run this game fine. It's cheap, too.
