Lots of changes need to be made...

I don't know where to begin. So many changes need to be made before this game is ready for the market. For one, the heroes are much too overpowered and resemble DotA characters too closely. Second, there are about 10 skills, probably more, for each character. For someone to understand all of the skills they will need to spend alot of time reading through all of the skills- a time which your enemy could have pushed to your base. Another huge problem is moving across the map. If you want to simply scroll to the center of the battlefield to watch battles or have your character walk there, it takes FOREVER for the screen to move to where you want it to be. Another problem is that you can't simply right click on the map to move to that area. Walking=a pain. There are too few items and they are hardly worth what they give.

Hopefully this will all be changed come release time.

Ummm... no offense but I don't think they will change the entire game.  The game is good now.  How are the characters exact copies of those from DOTA, but have way more skills than those from DOTA?  Also figuring out the skills really doesn't take that long especially compared to recipes in DOTA.  Try the game a few matches, you'll get the hang of it.

I totally disagree with you Omen. The game mechanics do not need to be changed. It needs to be the same all the way through, just improved. I like the DotA theme being that I am a veteran and I hope it can stay as close to DotA as much as it can(simply because it was inspired by it).

And who ever uses edge scrolling when you got tactical zoom?

You strike me as a wholehearted DoTA player. This isn't DoTA

see Omen, the thing you're missing is you shouldn't need to read what the abilities and buffs do; there's only a handful of DGs and remembering a few things is really easy as later abilities are just buffs to existing ones. there's in effect only 4 - 5 things you need to read per DG, which is +1 more things over DotA.

play the game some more, you'll quickly learn some builds for your favourite DGs.

zoom out, right click, zoom back in, enjoy the scenery.

strategic zoom is the best thing since sliced bread... erm, best thing since the minimap!

he is right about the minimap though, would be nice if you could give orders on it - would be very handy for fast teleports.

There is "edge-scrolling", the option must be enabled from the menu (at least in the newest beta (I think it is 2C))  This option is disabled by default.  Not a big deal, but I can see how it might cause confusion.

"The heroes are much too overpowered" - This is hard to confirm or deny.  The importance of character power comes down to two things: 1) How powerful the demigods are relative to one another (are they balanced?) and 2) How powerful the demigods are to their surroundings (enviornment and other non-important units).  As for #1, I think they did this quite well especially for a beta, though I don't think this is the point you are arguing.  #2, the point I believe you are concerned about, is more an issue of balancing between complete demigod control and demigod's so non-powerful that they should just be called a fancy looking minion.  In either case, if #1 holds true the game should still be fun and balanced regardless of how powerful the demigods are with respect to the enviornment.  I have a feeling that this is an issue more up for debate and less black and white.  The truth of the matter is, someone might like to have the demigod's more or less powerful than they already are, all stardock can do is try and shoot for the middle; however this doesn't matter much, as long as the demigods are all balanced according to one another.

As far as skills are concerned: would you rather have 3 skills?  Demigod does provide a large array of skills, but I always thought this improved the nature of these dota-rts type games.  Dota might dumb down the strategy a bit, but, in my opinion, I like having options.  Nothing takes the strategy out of a strategy game like giving someone a couple big red buttons (or in this case icons) which ask if you do or don't want to use any...of your 3 skills (or whatever low number you might want).  I think what you want to play is an fps.  Or maybe a non-serious demigod style game such as dota which lacks in what demigod has because it is just a mod and features replication of models and abilities; nothing new or interesting to learn.

I think Omen is already using edge scrolling.  He's saying edge scrolling takes forever or feels like a long time from homebase to the center of the map.  In dota, we can click on the minimap and the hero will start walking there.

It takes a bit getting used to but you need to use the scroll wheel to zoom out, then click to where you want to go.  Same for the teleport scrolls.  Zoom out and click on where you want to teleport.  It takes a bit of getting used to and I still prefer the minimap option because I'm too lazy to zoom out sometimes.  Especially when I have a slower computer...
