Idol Summons Being Different

Generals could use a bit more differentiation.

My ideas are as follows:

1) Idol summons should be specific to generals.  I.E. Only sedna can summon Priests and only Queen of Thorns can summon Minotaur Beserkers.  Maybe there could be a few idol summons that are the same for all i.e. siege archers and minotaurs, but each general gets a couple idol summons that give them a unique advantage.

or

2) Generals get more abilities (such as auras) that allow them to boost their minions in ways that other generals can't, so their idol summons, although still the same, have specific advantages over the summons of other generals.

I'd like to see one of these changes, or something like them, to differentiate the Generals a bit.  I'd like to see Generals specializing in certain summons, or having certain advantages, so not every general simply runs around with a similar entourage (plus their own minions i.e. yetis / shamblers).

Also, I think it would be great if minions in general had more of their own abilities.  As it stands, minions are just units that you move around in a general mass to attack other units, Demigods, or buildings.  This takes a lot of potential strategy and involvement out of the game.  I'm not sure what the best way to improve this would be.  Maybe add a counter system to the creeps and minions, so players are encouraged to individually select groups of their units and focus on different enemy ones?  Or maybe more of the minons could have special abilities or traits so that their uses were more specialized?  I don't know.  But it's pretty boring playing as a general and just using your minions as a mass attack cloud.

I think that could work. Like same units but differnt personality. differnt strenths. Oak's and Sedna have mass heasling while Qot's and Erebus have single healing. etc.

I agree.  It seems like a sort of lazy way to give Generals units to command.  However, it's what we have to work with, and I think the Idol mechanic has enough room to work with that it could become pretty interesting.  At the moment though, it's pretty bland.

Yeah, maybe if there were a lot more choices than slots available for minions.  Many different minions for different purposes would add a lot imo.
