[idea] demigod specific items

i realise something like this isnt likely to be implemented this late in development, even if the developers did like the idea, but here goes anyway =)

i think demigod specific items could be used to help balance some of the overpowered abilities by keeping them relativly overpowered but limited by gold and inventory space.

regulus for instance can concievably do well in a game without ever being within visual range of an enemy demigod. so why not have him pay for sniper bolts and mines.  you could also have diferent kinds of bolts and mines to add some extra depth. you could have a standard low damage sort of ability without the items at all but then buy the best sort of bolts for the snipe ability to realy see the overpoweredness of it.

also i hear a lot of complaints about the rooks boulder, you could nerf it by making the rook pay for boulders to toss but at the same time add some variety by offering different flavors of boulder. for instance make boulder toss without an item a regular linear damage spell like the qot has but then add a special pricy stun boulder to enable the dreaded boulder/hammer combo.

you could add all sorts of variety and new tactics with all the demigods that way, and balance them out with the gold cost.

just a thought that sounded cool in my head =)

I agree on your third paragraph except for paying for it.  That sounds really terrible imo.  A God has to pay for boulders to throw? Especially ones that come from the ground?  haha.

I see where you are going.  Just add different kinds of boulders to the upgrade tree and when you select the boulder ability you can choose from several types like stun, regular aoe type boulder, or whatever else.  If you choose one and you upgrade the general boulder ability you can upgrade it again or perhaps have several different kinds, many would be weak that way though.

don't you pay in mana? Even though you can buy mana items, you still have to buy them. That money could have been used for other things. I think gold should be seperated from mana. Because it will create different builds where players will make strong demigods without skills. Skills are meant to be used by a certain degree. Also some skills don't make sense when you pay in gold for them. I agree Regulus make sense, but what about Unclean Beast acid spit, or QOT shield, and so on...

You can balance this game with health, mana and damage modifications.

I think one or two demigod specific ACHEVIMENT items could be really cool. It would allow people who like one specific demigod som boons, perhapos require you complete 1/3, 2/3, all of the acheivements of that demigod before you could buy them.

having to pay money for skills wouldn't work very well, but I can see it a cool mechanic for one or a few active items. That item would have a rather low buying cost but each use costs money so you have to carefully think about using it. Of course it still would have a cooldown.

Blizzard is currently experimenting with exactly that mechanic with the spells of the nighthawk (sort of the science vessel of Starcraft II).

Well they don't necessarily need to be activatedable, though now I see what your getting at, because they're demigod specific they're basically like skills, very good point TBO, I'm stumped by that one. Well actually your referring to items, I was talking about achievement items, though I can see the same problems arising, but not as much so, as you get one achievement item anyways, weather it allows you two more shamblers, or an additional 1000 mana doesn't really make a difference.
