[Bug] Beta 2D - Extreme Lag Camera/Combat

[Bug] Beta 2D - Extreme Lag Camera/Combat

Despite not having the best gaming computer in the world, I've been able to play the prior builds of this game just fine - until now. After several tests at various resolutions while playing alone against CPU with Fog of War off with max Demigods I've come to some conclusions. I've informed Yarlen and Cari_Elf of these issues via IRC. They suggested I used Forced Windows Mode, and I did, but it didn't resolve this issue.

Camera:

I've come to the conclusion that the Camera is one of the problems. Eveytime I move the Camera, my FPS plumets and my lag increases. When other areas of lag occure, the Camera only compounds the problem making it very frustrating to play.

Combat Animations:

When the game begins and all the units are moving freely across the screen, including all ten Demigods and their minions - everything seems to run nice and smooth, even on High Graphics. However, the very instant combat begins, my FPS is cut in half and suddenly the game begins lagging. Moving the camera compounds upon the issue, making it impossible to play.

Updated Findings FPS/Memory:

On High

Pre-Combat: 20fps/780,000k

Post-Combat: 2fps/801,000k

On Medium

Pre-Combat: 20fps/760,000k

Post-Combat: 3fps/771,000k

On Low

Pre-Combat: 25fps/705,500k

Post-Combat: 3fps/712,500k

Additional Notes:

Nothing I can do can resolve this issue. I've reinstalled the game, I've redownloaded and reinstalled all drivers. Everything is up-to-date. Not hardware is damaged. I've also tweaked my Graphic's Card settings in several different ways. I even turned down/off sound, nothing is getting this lag to stop.

During Death:

Additonally, I've found that when I'm dead the game works butter smooth (on low only). But when my Demigod is on the field, the game does to hell in a hand basket.

Just to chip in, I have not (yet anyway) run into this problem:

WinXP SP3

Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3Ghz

9600 GT 512MB

2GB RAM

All the settings set to High, 4x AA and NVidia drivers 181.22. In fact, I was surprised while playing last night that I had no gfx lag at all with what seemed to be a ridiculous number of units on screen. There seemed to be way more units on screen than in previous games, but I missed a lot of the Beta 2C cycle. Three DGs per side (5 AI).

A log file from a game that experienced this issue would help greatly. This file is located in the 'bin' folder and should be named:

DemigodLog.txt

I've sent out some PM's to some of those who have experienced this issue. If I missed anyone who would like to send me a log file please e-mail me at:

[email protected]

Thanks.

I can also vouch for this post. I find the game nearly unplayable even 1v1. I have all settings set to low with no AA.

Intel Q9550 Quad Core

x2 nVidia 9800GX2 Video Cards (I tried it with only one card as well to see if there were issues with SLi, no luck)

4 gigs of DDR2 1066

Xonar Sound Card

1200Watts of power

I checked three times that all my drivers are up to date.

I think I must correct myself and state that I do observe a stutter whenever a new asset is loaded. Whether it is audial, visual, or both I do not know... it seems to pause noticeably everytime something new for the skirmish gets introduced (minion summoning, zoomed texture detail, etc.). Some kind of caching behaviour I think (?).

Do people have many background tasks running while playing?

One thing worth trying would be to delete the cache files located here:

C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Application Data\Gas Powered Games\Demigod\cache\resources

(Replace USER with your appropriate user account)

Nice attempt there EpicBarrel, but sadly with ill success.

I dumped the chache, and though it had a great deal of information in it - it wasn't the issue.

Also, I don't run other tasks in the background when I play games. My CPU isn't the best, and I need as many resources as I can devote to the game as possible.

I don`t. My machine is the same as it was prior to the new beta. In case I could post a new DXDiag with the list /list options if that would help.

I`ll try the cache deletion idea next time I play.

I don't have extreme lag myself but I do have some annoying stutters I just can't seem to explain. Game runs like totally smooth at 1440x900 or whatever the resolution is at most settings: 3GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E8XXX something, Nvidia 8800 GTX running a pair of bit older drivers which has worked amazingly well compared to the newer drivers which gave me a annoying stutter in Left 4 Dead, 4GB Dual Channel.

Anyways I have this small stutter that lasts for a small amount of time which seems to change in both occurence and length depending on how much crap I have running in the background. It's rather annoying considering everything is really smooth and then suddenly everything stops for a bit, when I tried running a ton of active background apps the stops would last for just over a second so it's certainly some calculation that totally halts the game. Like some others my guess is the AI.

I have a slowdown that happen when Im passing my mouse cursor over A.I demigods. The fps go down drastically and that did not happen before.

As soon as I remove my cursor from the ennemy A.I demigod, speed is back.

I Have ATI 4870X2 so its not geforce only related. and it only happen in beta 2D (2C was ok)

I also have a quadcore 2.66mhz so its not the issue.

Mhhm it´s lagginf for you >I have nearly the same technical data as you I dont have a quad core but a Dual core extreme and 8 Gb ram same graph´s whats your OS???

After deleting the contents of my Cache directory the stutter *seems* a little less frequent and a little less lengthy in duration when it does occur... but I can`t be too sure its due to the Cache deletion. Not a pronounced enough change to tell - could just be normal anomalous fluctuation.

It is worth noting that prior to deletion my Cache directory was 78 Meg, now after a single game it is 63 Meg.

Crud, with so many people throwing their voices out there I'll mention it too, I totally have this issue, and my computer is actually pretty good.  (Not the best, but good enough that I would expect less lag)  I have a dual core processor, NVIDIA 8600M, and 3 gigs of RAM.  However, if I run anything but the bare minimum required I get lag like it was going out of style.  And, once the battle has been raging for awhile and there are units all over the map, I can't hardly keep track of what is going on due to the choppiness.

I run Windows XP Professional, as far as I am concerned the most stable OS out capable of running the game.

I still get stutter, incidental spurts here and there every time a new asset is loaded or featured in the course of gameplay. I have also rarely experienced a dramatic pause (2 to 4 seconds) while something loads or otherwise occurs; generally things are very busy onscreen at that time.

Never had that in previous betas.
