BETA 2D Feedback - what the heck happened

Played 2D and was very disappointed.

1. Unclean Beast went from being grossly underpowered to grossly overpowered (moderation please).

2. The game speed seemed too fast - I was leveling up every few seconds - I couldn't keep up with it (is there anyway to modulate it?)

3. Most importantly, middle to end game, the number of minions on the board was so great that my machine (which ran the game perfectly before beginning to end) was a giant lag fest. At times it appeared that there were 200 minions running around. The audio started skipping and reverberating. The video was flickering and stuttering. It totally ruined the game. Please revert to the pre-beta 2D minion numbers. This game is unplayable now.

Havent tried Unclean Beast.

Dunno about Game Speed....are you sure you wernt playing with different settings or just vs a.i (if you play offline with only a.i game will run faster because there is 0 lag).

And I agree with you about the minions. I sometimes see waaay to many minions at a time as compared to before. Not sure yet if its a good thing or a bad thing..

Even if it's not for performance issues, the minions are just way too numerous now. It looks like a proper war, I will give you that, but demigods just aren't that important any more in the fights. All we do is run and cap flags.

Sounds like the opposite of the last build, the grunts on the field felt rather pointless until Catapultasuars.

Agreed HeavenFall. At times, there were so many minions I could barely see my demigod. And any time my demigod got into the fray, it was quickly overwelmed by scads of minions. I could barely see through the sheet of angels flying around. Devs - please give us our old game back.

I don't know, I think I like the massive horde of units.  It definitely takes some getting use to.  Oddly enough I find the game running very smoothly even towards the end game. Build 2C gave me some porformance hick-ups so I turned off AA, set shadows to low and left everything else on high running at 1680x1050.  Now with 2D I have left those settings alone and the game runs great for me, even with the hordes.

Maybe instead of increasing the number of minions, you could just keep the numbers the same and increase their health/damage etc. Of course im assuming you increased the number of minons so that minions would be more important/effective/deadly.

i agree with these lag problems in beta 1-b it was running very smooth to me at solid 50 fps then i got blocked out of beta 2-b and stuff cause the pass but in 2-d when i can play it i get like 20 fps and lower as the game goes on iunno what happened but my comp is dieing now

Game options aside - swarming hordes of minions clearly trashes gameplay for many (not all). I agree with using fewer, stronger minions just to keep the arena less cluttered. If everyone with mid-range machines has to play the game on lower settings to get a respectable frame rate, I suspect many prospective buyers will pass it by.

2. you can set the spawn rate to slow and the expierence or the game speed rate to slow if you level up too fast.

3. there are some people having problems to run this build smooth  (me included)

1. i don't think he is overpowerd, but what do  i know (play mostly against ai)

An Oak that just teleport in with 10+ ghosts instantly pwn with their 1000+ DPS. Don't even have time to teleport out, nor move away due to speed debuff. O.o

I assume your talking about lowering Spawn Rate to normal/slow? Even so, the default setting should be the norm....and swarms of minions shouldnt really be the norm. If you guys have purposely/accidently put spawn rates to fast by mistake or wanted to try it out then thats fine :)

If you keep moving spirits cant really hit you. If you stand still they will pwn you :P And tele-ambushes is part of the game atm...you have to keep an eye out to see if the enemy Demigod is teleporting (Totems and Regulus' Tracking Bug helps), and if he is get the hell away from the enemy flag or teleport yourself. Also if your being tele-ambushed then make sure you have backup plans incase he popus up like Health Regen items and Heal Potions...or teleport quickly when he appears :)

I'm just pointing out that I am surprised that oak go from UP to rook-like port-ambush. Also, I defintely remember those spirit pounding on me even when I was moving (with oak slow down on me).

It feels like I am fighting a rook while I was using QoT. I had to avoid confronting oak by front at all cost.

Of course, I now need to see if I can work something out. Still too early to say for sure, but they defintely hurt.

Teleporting isn't an option since he kill me so fast (4000+ hp 5000+ with shield). My teleport cast bar only reach 2/3 before I am dead full health with 1000 absorb thorn shield.

Moving isn't an option due to slowdown debuff.

Fighting isn't an option as he does 1000+ DPS. I got 5 sec or less to do anything. I feel I only got 2 sec to do anything, because the rest of the 5 sec I was trying to get away.

setting exp to low helps alot i just played 1 hour match vs comp since i cant join games for some reason and only got to lvl 14 and i only died 3 times however i put grunt+tower strenght to high and still only got the tower on the right side down i said screw it and ended it but it did decrease the lag considerably when set to normal spawn rate

Found the problem of all this "mass minion" confusion. Spawn Rate is set to "Fast" by default now...so before every game just change your settings to "Span Rate: Normal" (As Frogboy kindlty hinted out...) and you will find the game hasnt changed at all compared to 2C (gameplay wise).

Flag mutipliers have increased im guessing...its interesting change...have to play more to see if its for the better.

That's definitely a bug. And to clarify vocabulary:

Minions - Controlled by a General.
Reinforcements - Spawned from a portal.

Are you all experiencing increased number of AI minions or increased number of reinforcements?

It's reinforcements.  I noticed what Tyo mentioned, spawn rate set to fast, I set it back to normal and played a few games.  Now it's pretty much back to normal 2C levels.

My major lag issues have nothing to do with the spawn rates of the Reinforcements. It's more centered on the something else that's triggered by the playable Demigod, the Camera, and Attack Animations.

Unclean beast was underpowered? I rocked with that guy... versus the computer... but still! I rocked with him!

Currently downloading the latest version, let's see how it changes the beast.

I noticed the stuttering late game as well.

 

Also fully agree that there are way too many units in play.  Felt that way to a large extent even before 2D, but especially now.
